Well, this decides it, the 991 GT3 will be my next new Car!!!!!!!

I love how Porsche can keep the 911 true to the 911 year after while continuously making improvements/changes to the styling.

When you think about it, Ford, Dodge and Chevrolet have done their recent retro looking cars and they have been big hits but Porsche has never stopped doing the retro thing with the 911. Park any two 911's along side each other from any two years between 1963 and 2012 and no two people would mistake either as a Porsche 911. To me that is awesome.

Looking forward to seeing one in person. IMO it is an attractive car minus the overkill rear badging. A hair dryer and dental floss would fix that in 5 minutes though.

Maybe I am old school regarding the interior changes because they are a little drastic but should function better one would think.

Agreed, and in typical Porsche fashion, it will probably be an option to put just about any combination of things on the back, possibly covered in leather, aluminum, carbon fiber or all at once.

Car is pretty for sure, but they still have the engine in the wrong place. I dont claim to be an expert driver, but I did get very good grades in Physics at a University level, and I understand what "Polar moment of inertia" is.

If you have a really good idea, then others will copy it. They'll change it a bit, so they dont get sued, but the whole "plagiarism is the sincerest form of flattery" still rings true in cars, just like every other aspect of life.

If given a blank CAD file, and told to make a performance car, how many engineers would choose to put 500lbs of engine BEHIND the rear axle? Let's see, the answer is zero.

It is amazing how they have tamed the inherent handicap that tradition has saddled them with, much like learning how to fight with 1 hand tied behind your back. But, just imagine what those resources could make if you untied that proverbial hand ??

If they made the Cayman the top dog in their litter, and focused their engineering might on that, they could easily make one that would spank a 911 in performance.

I'm not lamenting what is, so much as what could be....

Everyone knows the 911 is a flawed design but Porsche will never change it's engine position. Why? Because it's an icon - the same reason why it'll always be Porsche's flagship model (not including supercars like the CGT), despite a mid-engine model with the same power being faster.

Thats a pretty large chunk just for the base model. I guess porsche got sick of all the comparisons to the M3, but this is near GTR money now. ($89k)

A 997.2 is $79k today. Many companies add 2-3% per year anyway, and there's a lot that's changed, so that seems fair.

Fair enough. Been a while since I priced a 911. From all the reviews in the past few years I figured the price was lower.

I agree and used to feel disappointed with Porsche for the same reasons.

Then I realized, it's kind of Porsche's way of showing how much better they are than everyone else. A flawed design that is still more successful as a focused enthusiast driver or a track car, than all these more expensive and exotic perfect designs.

I guess I must be wired differently than the Porsche faithful. Instead of thinking "how amazing that the 1 armed fighter is victorious again", I am thinking, "Man, if they just untied his other arm, then the result of that has the potential to be absolutely EPIC !".

I'm sure they would not admit to this "on the record", but I gotta wonder how many brilliant engineers they have who must be thinking the same thing, especially with the detailed computer models they have today. Rather than just assuming that it would be faster by some unknown amount (like their 1980's predecessors had to), they can probably move the engine forward a foot, then re-run the simulations, and see how many seconds a lap a mid-engined GT3 could shave off the Nurburgring time, so they know for sure exactly what they are missing. I can't believe that some engineer hasn't done that already, even if it was in secret on his own time....
