Despite the early morning rain, our Round 3 event on April 10th at Buttonwillow was a great turnout! Track conditions were cold and damp in the morning sessions then went to dry and muddy in the afternoon as drivers got more brave.
This was a tricky event as most drivers weren't sure whether to bring rain tires or dry tires. Jason Boyce decided to bring his auto E36 M3 in place of his full race E36 M3 with anticipation of a down pour. Unfortunately for him, it didn't rain at all until we all were packed and ready to head home. Huge thanks to all the drivers that made it out and super big thanks to MMI Vehicle Systems for coming out and bringing prizes and food for the drivers. Very appreciated. Also, a shout out to all the Bimmer Challenge sponsors we have this year: Eibach TTFS Trinity Autosport Maxxis Tire Koyo Radiator Evasive Motorsports Yokohama Wheel Project Mu Project KICS Performance Eurowerks MMI Vehicle Systems Here are the official results with awarded points for Round 3 at Buttonwillow. And official overall season standings for all drivers that have competed in 2016. B5 1st Place - Mike Clark. Fastest lap = 2:01.7 B5 2nd Place - Daniel Katz. Fastest lap = 2:08.5 B4 1st Place - Brian Namniek. Fastest lap = 2:05.5 B3 4th Place - Alexander Goodrich. Fastest lap = 2:02.9 B3 2nd Place - Ali Sarabanha. Fastest lap = 1:59.8. Ali recently became a member of the exclusive sub 2 minute club at Buttonwillow. Congrats! B2 5th Place - Andrea Cairone. Fastest lap = 2:00.7. This was Andrea's first time at Buttonwillow and he's a recent East Coast transplant. We hope to see more of Andrea's sick MCoupe in the future. B2 4th Place - Phil Kim. Fastest lap = 2:00.6 B2 3rd Place - Vernon Anderson. Fastest lap = 1:58.4. This was our first time seeing Vernon at a BC event and we hope to see more of him in B2. B2 2nd Place - Tony Jackson. Fastest lap = 1:58.2. B2 1st Place and Overall Fastest BMW in BC - Elie Mansour. Fastest lap = 1:56.8. |

We're winding up for Round 4 at Auto Club Speedway on the 28th. Bimmer Challenge banners just arrived from Maxxis Tire and will be given to anyone that registers for Bimmer Challenge. These are completely optional, of course, but they do look great and guaranteed to drop lap times! :P
We also have prizes from Koyorad Cooling that showed up as well. All registered drivers for Bimmer Challenge will get a free Koyo funnel and all podium finishers of each class will get Koyo tee shirts along with a new trophy design we're working on. Tony, Elie and myself will be pitted under the Eibach canopies as usual. If you're new to Bimmer Challenge and have questions, come say hi. Make sure everyone fills out a competition form during registration the morning of the event. Clicking the Bimmer Challenge box online does nothing but give us an idea of who is competing. I keep a copy already filled in on my computer and print it out before each event. See attached for a blank comp form you can save. |

hi,
M3 noob here. I've been tracking other cars for 10+ years, but never in a M3. thinking about taking out my newly acquired E90 M3 (stock and MT6) to a few Bimmer Challenger in 2017. question: what wheel (offset) and tire size ? I like cheap wheels. they are a wear item for me. can I go square (for easier tire management) ? TRM wheels ? plan to keep the car stock other than brake pads and wheels/tires. anything (reliability mod) else I need to watch out for ? I am pretty hard on cars. thanks. |

You'll want camber plates as well so you don't wear out the outside edges of the tires as well. You probably want to upgrade your brake fluid as well to something less likely to boil (I use Castrol SRF). That on top of your plan for track pads should be fine. Hope to see you at Chuckwalla in Feb (this will be my first year in Bimmer Challenge as well). |

thanks. I thought 18x10 won't fit under a stock E90 M3 ? from Apex's thread, it seems only 255 tires and 18x9 will fit front, bust stock is 265 on 9.5" at rear. kinda confusing.

I run the Maxxis VR-1 in 265/35/18 but it's a wide 265 tire (section width is the same as some other vendors 275). Lots of others run other 275 section tires without issues (NT01, Hankook RS3's, etc.) |

Using 265/35-18 Maxxis RC-1 tires, and as macdude357 the Maxxis brand tires are a little wider than NT01s, and this one is a little smaller than the NT01s.
