do most people get DDC with 19" 220M wheels?

Hello all,

In the process of ordering a 2012 E92 M3, and would like to get the 19" 220M wheels, which doesn't come part of the Competition package ZCP.

Many of the M3 pics I see online have the 19" 220M style wheels, which seem most popular. I was wondering if most people just get the 220M wheels, or they also get the Dynamic Damper control $1000 stand alone option as well?

I am looking to go with the 6 speed manual, and wasn't planning on getting the DDC option in there, since i will not be tracking the car that much, and was trying to stay away from electronic failure in the future as much as possible, for example, DCT, DDC.

Any insight/discussion would be appreciated.

The 220M wheels are a classic and probably on its last leg as an option since it has been around so long for so many years. I had them on my E46 M3 and they were great.

Having ZCP on my present E90 M3 which of course comes packaged with DDC has proven to be a bit of a waste of money for me. I never use it, although I tinkerered with various settings for almost a year now. I've tried every damper settings only to find out the comfort setting is just right for all my needs.

Having said that, I should mention that I do not presently track my M3 and I can't say that I wouldn't want DDC if I did. Also, you should know that the M3 is chaulk-full of electronics no matter how simple the configuration you choose. There's no escaping it.

If you plan to keep your M3 for a long time and want to avoid heavy electronic failure costs, the only thing you need to drop is the DCT (which you have already decided.)

Splurge on the DDC and use it when you track. The option adds to the dual-identity of the M3 that makes it so special.

ok Thanks. hoping more will weight more to this..and maybe i am making a big deal out of this option... i see your point, but some would argue that if you don't use it much or if you don't track the car at all and want to keep the car for the long run, then why get it in the first place? in 5 or 6 years when the DDC fails, I would have to pay time and money with the car being at the dealer to get fixed..

... to have it when you track. Your concern with never having anything to fail and fix makes you sound like you don't track at all. If you don't track, you will never need DDC.

Quite often, folks who seriously track will upgrade their suspension off of a stripped down spec and just ride it stiff all the time. It all depends on what you're really going to do with it.

I have 19 inch 220M wheels and 6MT I do not have the DDC. Also I do not track my car. I am a believer in not getting options that unnecessarily would represent problem or maintenance issues in the future.

And I am a believer in not doing something half ass'd. When I buy a car I get it fully loaded with every option. I mean there is no real reason not to. It's better to have the optional stuff and not use it then not have it and need it one day or regret that you didn't get it.

When I ordered my M3, I went with the 220s and DDC as seperate options. I also do not track my car. If I were ordering again, I don't think I would get the DDC. It's not bad, but it's just not that much better either. But I do like the looks of the 220s.

if you meant EDC when you say DDC. I agree it's a waste. I have it and can barely feel the difference. Don't even touch the button. They could've chose any setting from the factory and I would've been just as happy

Love the EDC.
I prefer "normal". "comfort" is a little bouncy feeling to me. "Sport" reminds me of my E46 M...very firm...so I do run it in this mode at times too.

I ordered my 2012 with 220M's and Dynamic Damper Control (DDC). When test driving I preferred the comfort and normal modes.

DDC = EDC.

if you're a track-rat, most swap out their suspension setup with aftermarket coilovers, so spending extra on EDC doesn't makes sense.

I so agree, what else does one need when one drives a virgin M3 (without all the how we say in German "Gerümpel" [extra junk] nah I like to control the car not some on board computer do the work for me - perhaps it is because my first one was a e28 made in 1987 model 535is just one step from the them M535i).

The 220M wheel is a fine wheel, I had it on my e46 also have a set of winter wheels for my car now. I change my wheels in the fall since here and then I'll go for a spin in the winter time when the roads are dry just to keep everything well oiled

My winter wheels are 18 inch and are none offset (same an all four corners). My winter wheels are none OEM I picked them up for a very good price, paid $600-for all 4 wheels brand new at the time (they look stock, however, are not and serve the purpose for the rare time I take my car out in the winter time).
