Install TPMS on aftermarket rims

For the most part, unless they are TPMS-Ready rims, most rims cant accept OEM BMW TPMS.

What are the solutions to this problem? I know you can drill another hole for the TPMS in the inner barrel but what if you dont want to do that?

My rims has the valve stem opening in the center of the rim where the valve stem bends at a 90 degree. Are there adapters I can purchase or some kind of special aftermarket valve stems I could use?

i am running into this issue as well. Just found out the wheels I am looking at are NOT tpms ready, so it was recommended to drill in the center of the inner lip... I don't think there are any alternatives...

In the market

Curious which wheels you're encountering this with? I'm looking to pick up a set for the track and had just assumed they would work. I know Turner sells a module to bypass or override the TPMS system, but wouldn't want to go that route until after the warranty expires...

It would be a big help to let us know which wheel brand you went with so you can get more information on a resolution to your problem. Most cast wheels are already TPMS compatible. If you purchased a multipiece wheel (which it sounds like), many of those require you to use adapters to install your TPMS on them.

^ Gerry is right!

most normal rims (non-reverse) that are cast now accept the larger valves for the TPMS.

The 3pc wheels are the issue.
with the 90* angle valve stem, it sounds like you have a 3pc/2pc wheel.

there are some solutions to this. some are really easy to install, depending on where the valve stem hole is on the barrel.

show us a picture of the wheels (without tires) where the hole is and we can help better.

my wheels are HRE's that were not built TPMS ready... I would take a pic but they are sitting at a shop right now. I trust their opinion that drilling the center is the best way to go, I am just curious if there are any other options out there..

there are alternatives. quite simple really.

i was under the wrong impression that the tpms valve had to stick outside of the wheel in order to get a reading. apparently as long as the modual is held securely inside the rim, it will read properly.

this is what i ended up doing. works beautifully; so happy i didnt drill my rims.

Could you provide more info on those adapters? My wheels are actually getting drilled this week (if not already) and I really would love to avoid doing so....

do you see the loop on the bottom half of the valve stem? basically you secure the TPMS modual to that and that's it.

do a google search for tpms adapter.
