Not such a good story.

After waiting since the end of February I finally took delivery yesterday evening of my E90 in Silverstone (tried to upload some pictures last night but got security error and waiting for response from mediator). It had been a long time since I had test drove the car and it felt great to drive out of there and I quickly remember why I had fallen in love with the car. The car was spectacular last night and I had a great time ripping around enjoying the car.

The good part of the story ended this morning though when I went to start the car to drive to work. When I pushed the start button it hesitated a little bit then fired really rough, the tach bounced around, I gave it a little gas and it leveled out but then errors started popping up on my idrive screen. First I got an emission malfunction and then an engine malfunction-reduced power error. My tach was limited to 4500 but the message said I could drive but with caution but take it to a dealer for service. Since it was 5:30 in the morning I figured I would drive to work cautiously and then take it over sometime once the dealers where open. Got to work no problem, let the car sit for a bit then restarted it. No engine malfunction-reduce power error anymore but still the emission error and the strong smell of gas outside the car after it had ran for a bit (my wife later confirmed that when she went in the garage an hour after me this morning that it smelled bad in there as well). I phoned the dealer for advice on driving it over and he said SOS it and put it on a flatbed.

The flatbed picked it up at 1pm and was going to take it over to the dealer. I phoned ahead to the dealer and mentioned that I had some meetings from 2pm till 6pm and that they could just leave me a message for me once they got the car and what the plan for it was. Got out of my meetings at 6pm and still had no message so I phoned over to ask what the deal was and was told my car hadn't been dropped off yet. I quickly panicked, thinking that the flatbed driver had jacked my car, and asked where she thought my car was as it had been 5 hours since they had picked it up and she had no idea and that maybe I should phone BWM assist back. BWM assist confirmed with the driver of the flatbed that he had in fact dropped it off and then when checking with the dealer again they confirmed that weren't sure if they had the car but would go outside and check.

Meanwhile I hopped in a cab to boot over there as quick as I could. By the time I got there they confirmed they had the car but weren't sure where the keys where but that they would probably find them in the morning. Fingers crossed here now for that.

Anyway, they are unsure if they will get a chance to look at the car that I waited 4.5 months for and then had for less than 12 hours at some point tomorrow. Somewhat frustrated here but the 3 hours of driving I had last night is still making me smile.

Sorry to hear about your misadventure with your litterally new car but may I suggest that you change dealership? That is no way to treat a customer. Not sure where they key is, that is a good one.

Not a lot of options in Calgary, two dealerships, both owned by the same people. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Sorry to hear about your experiences. Having waited as long as we have, we deserve nothing short of perfection and a similar caliber of service. Which dealer was this? I'd be having a word with my CA....

Best of luck.

It will work out. Don't let it sour your take on BMW.

You won't have an issue. Things like this are very rare with M3s.

To the OP... Hope all works out quickly. I can only imagine your pain.

Update: They worked on my car for a good portion of today doing diagnostics and have yet to come up with a final answer as to what the problem is. Possible issues are that maybe I got some bad fuel when it was filled for delivery. Or something to do with the fuel pump so they want to run some cold tests first thing tomorrow morning with some sensors hooked up to the fuel pump to see if its some of sort of a pressure issue. Something isn't burning quite right I think which is tripping the emission sensors and causing the smell of gas in the exhaust.

Will let you know how its resolved. B
