500 bucks? What the fuck?
I'm not a member there but I've been a member of quite a few gyms and I've never paid an initiation fee. I pretty much walk in with the stance of 'If you want me as a member and we both know this number is ridiculous, so sign me up now without it or call me when you're running a special'. It's worked everytime and I've never paid. You might be dealing with a whole different animal with a $500 dollar signup fee though. I do that to gyms with like a $125 dollar signup fee lol. |

Well, you get what you pay for. If the gym is nice and clean and free of douchebags, fatasses and phags, I wouldn't mind paying a large sign up fee. But maybe not $500 large.

I was a member and just canceled. I'm pretty sure that if you buy a package of training sessions they will waive all or at least a portion of the fee, though I don't think it was ever that high (I think mine was $200 which was waived when I bought training sessions). A buddy of mine used to work at a NYSC and he told me that initiation fees are the membership reps commission and you can easily negotiate. RE Equinox, I loved their classes and equipment. The facilities are VERY nice and the price weeds out the tribal tattoos. If I didn't have a gym in my office I would still be a member.

Girls with fake tits and no tops would have to walk around in order for me to pay that much for a sign up fee. And a blow job after every session

Absolutely. Shit, I wear wrinkled clothes that I throw in my gym bag in the morning because all I care about is my workout.

I've never paid 500, but I have paid something like $300/ea for my wife and I both when we lived in LA for an initiation fee. I want to say monthly dues were something like $70/ea?
Small gym, limited membership, clean equipment... literally after you got off the elliptical, etc. someone would come over and spray it down completely. They provided work-out towels and most importantly it was only 1 block from our apartment. In LA that was huge since nothing is ever close. It was small (maybe 40x60) in one large room... But every bike/stepper/elliptical, etc. had individual TVs so you could watch whatever you wanted. They had strict cell-phone use policies while in the gym as well so you didn't have to listed to someone else's BS drama. It was spectacular and totally worth it. |

I think the standard rate is something like $144/mo including tax and I would happily continue to pay that. I found it very reasonable. My gym had zero posers (only found them at cheap gyms and haven't heard the word "poser" since high school). It was exclusively businessmen and young professional women, almost all of whom were good looking. No grunting, no thunderous dropping of weights from the highest point they could reach. A very nice, friendly clientele.

Thats annoying. I want to be left alone, look at pretty woman, and not talk to anybody. Although I might run over and fap to scarlet johanson. But I hate shit like that. Gyms are just for working out. Anything else, than eff off.
