Guys,

I'm considering installing a good set of all seasons on my 220M 19's. I've been exploring different options over the past few days.

I was initially set on getting 255/35/19 and 275/35/19 tires but considering the pothole filled roads of BMore...I think a higher profile tire (40) would be better over the long term.

My car's suspension is bone stock and as such have plenty of clearance (i think). This wheel/tire combo is strictly DD only. I also have 12mm spacers all around.

Please let me know the pros and cons of trying the 255/40/19 F and 275/40/19R set up.

I think u will rub with 40s, I run 255/275/35/19 continental dws and its close, due to being all season, plus contis run a tad wider(like Michelins), I don't recommend, but there are far more knowledgeable folks on here that might know. Good luck

The 255/40/19s would definitely rub. Those are taller than 265/35/19s.

Why not put a little extra into getting dedicated 18" winter wheel/tire setup? I too live in MD...not too far from you and have been thinking about going this route. I am sure there is someone on the boards from TireRack (think his name is Ben)...

yes, they'll rub, those are f'ing huge for the m3.

you MIGHT be able to get away with 235 or 245 in a 40 profile 19". 255/40 will be way too tall in a 19. 255/40 works in 18 but not 19.

245/40R19 would likely work on the rear but not on the front. you could do 225/40R19 front (e46 m3 front oem 19) and 245/40R19 rear and have narrower than stock but i doubt you want that for tires are not dedicated snows

tire construction matters a lot more than 5 % points of sidewall profile. a Continental DWS in 255/35R19 275/35R19 will ride SIGNIFICANTLY smoother and softer than a PS2/PSS in that sizing

Sorry OP I don't mean to thread jack but why would spacers make a difference as to what profile could be used? Especially a bigger size.. I'd say they are more for people with thinner tires wanting a flush look. Like I said don't mean to thread jack, quite curious actually.

^^^This 255/40-19, with or without spacers, will rub on the fender liner!
