Laguna Seca 06.17.2012
Ok, so here's the last leg of the weekend NorCal trip.
Laguna Seca is a fast track, lots of fun. But, gotta watch out for them red-colored concrete sections just inside of many apex berms. Damaged a wheel on it during session #4. I guess they're there to dissuade people from cutting corners too aggressively... CFRA (other than being a little quick with black flags) runs great track events. 30 minute sessions, and 5 of'em! And, met RadiantM3, M3D, etc, at the track. As a recap, was at Thunderhill on Friday 06.15.2012 (http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=707876) and at Infineon on Saturday 06.16.2012 (http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=708333). .

Ricky driving my car...2 seconds faster than me. We thought he had run a 1:40 (which would have been a record for a street driven car at a CFRA event), but it turned out to be a 1:44 (there was something wrong with my lap timer). Still, very fast...particularly from the passenger seat, in which I got dizzy.
Sorry for the poor quality of the video. The track is barely visible, but watching Ricky's hands is entertaining in and of itself. Last edited by yyoo; 06-22-2012 at 09:23 AM.. |

Good stuff guys. I really want to see a lap from wwjd15 with telemetrics. I think that would help slower guys like myself learn to get around faster.

By the way, you really know your way around traffic! Must be all that LA freeway driving. I deal with traffic like a grandpa waiting for a crossing guard to help me across the street. |

We were trying to get telemetrics using Harry's Laptimer Pro for the iPhone and an Emprum UltiMate GPS accessory. Unfortunately, the UltiMate disconnected from the phone (at 2:15 in the video) and the lap timer got confused. Got some telemetrics but don't know how reliable they are.

On the street the shifter is more comfortable so I've never bothered to learn to use the paddles.
It's not the reason I use it, but it also has the added advantage of letting me see which gear I'm using when I watch the videos. I will though eventually get around to learning to use the paddles and try it out at the track. Last edited by yyoo; 06-23-2012 at 04:04 PM.. |

Wow, great stuff!
OP, nice pix and entertaining vids. I love to see the camaraderie as well as the great tracking. Reminds me of our VIR trip in May. Some day I will visit those great west coast tracks, it's on my bucket list. A well chronicled adventure, thanks for sharing.

All in all, I think each of us put in over 1,500 miles on this trip. We're vaguely tossing up talks re: a track trip to Europe now... .
