I purchased my 09 E92 6MT back in october for the sole reason that I knew this was the end of the road for the big V8. I've seen them around town and driven a few and knew I had to have one before they were no more. I saved up the money to purchase a slightly used one with all the options and have the grin I've always wanted to have when I open the garage door and see that baby sitting there. I dont think I'll be able to have that feeling with the new M3 so I wanted to get one while I could. I think the sound of the V8 alone is worth the entire cost of the car. I may even trade this in on a new one before the end of production so I can have one with less miles and all the updates. Once they are out of production they will be very very hard to find at a fair price as these will even enter the collectable area.
It's sad to see them go. But who knows, by the time we get to 2014 and down the road whatever oil is left will be hard find or 7 dollars a gallon so maybe we'll all be driving electric cars. There's only a few years left of oil with the growth of china's consumption. It looks very bad by 2016 for sure.

So...with all this production news, correct me if I am wrong, but after Oct 11 (approx) the MY11 E90 will not be produced. When is the new M3 with the new engine due to be released then, is it 2013/2014?

I woke up this morning thinking about this exact thing - when they will stop making the E90 M3 and now I have my answer. [Sigh]
I guess I got about <2 months to see if I want to trade the 135i in for the last M3 sedan ever

Wow you must be kidding right? What is there to even think about there...Hmmm a 135i or a v8 m3...this is a joke right? I mean yeah, wipe the sleep out of your eyes and clear your head..That's a no-brainer. I know I'm going to catch some serious flak for this, but the 1 series looks like a car that was never finished. It's like they said yeah we ran out of money on the body during the design phase so we're just going to produce a car with a missing rear end and some bad lines. There's something about it that just looks like their design budget ran dry. Flame on I guess

Sad indeed!..... this Generaton will defintely hold its value if all current owners keep the asking price up!...just think they will never be another naturally aspperated V-8 again in 3 series, the next generation will be Force induction!...they won't sound cammy and will definitely be different!...think of the E9X as a 60's era muscle cars of the modern day , soon to change!

As for the 135i --> M3 move, it isn't a no-brainer because there's a ~$20K difference between 2 cars. I'm still pondering about it unless the ATM starts spitting bills at me tomorrow for no reason...then it's off to Germany.

Do any of you have crickity crackity mirrors when opening and closing the doors? Sounds so cheap for a $70k+ car. If so can you PM me if you got it fixed and what BMW did to resolve it?

It is unfortunately a "feature" of the car. I had my dealer fix it (was my passenger side mirror.) I believe they used some felt tape in few spots that tightened up the housing.

Mine are fine, but curious exactly what's creaking. Is it the mirror cover? Or the whole mirror? I'd assume a folding mirror is prone to having a bit of play compared to a fixed one, but maybe it's just the cover. I'd also assume if you slam the door hard enough, anything is going to creak, no? And yes, cars without door frame which lower window to open/close the doors are more prone to slamming since interior is not airtight when last door is closed (I do close mine as slow as possible ).

It is the housing and cap on the back creaking I believe. Has nothing to do with the folding operation and not slamming doors (the only one for me that squeaked was passenger side that is hardly ever opened and never slammed.) As you *open* the door, it (used to) creaks.
