CTS gets 420hp twin-turbo V6....

Should be interesting epecially if this motor (or a detuned version) finds its way into the ATS....kudos to GM for pushing the envelope, though I've always thought GM should have come out with a stop gap between the top of the line CTS V6 and the V-model.....a la E550 and 550i...

The question will be what the price point will be on a CTS with that engine in it ? The problem with the ATS is when you stick the 3.6 in it, it's price becomes questionable. If a CTS now with a 3.6 and Premium is in the mid 50s then a new model with a TT 6cyl will probably be in the low 60s. You can find Vs for that pricing.

Agreed they would be narrowing the gap between the two segments slighlty in terms of price but...I think its do-able, start the ATS-V pricing at the top of the current ATS price range around 55k max 60k with options....current CTS ranges from 40-60k and CTS-V starts around 65k...with enough standard options you could keep twin turbo in the 60-66k window.

The CTS is moving to 5-series size and price ang this will be going up against the German V8 midsize sedans.

Pretty impressive stuff.

The ATS-V with this motor will be a rocket. Going to be fun to see the ATS-V go at it with the new M3.

CTS is already 5-series size. The current CTS was almost a foot longer than the E90 3er. An inch longer than the E60 5er.

I think more importantly it will be getting wider and have more content available to be better able to compete with the E and 5. The G2 CTS is 191.6" long, which is an inch longer the E60 but 1.3" shorter than the F10.

The ATS is such a phenomenal car as-is, I can't wait to see how the V model will do. Provided they keep the curb weight gain with all the performance hardware at a minimum, I think this has a chance to make it high on the podium in its class.

I agree, but the place the ATS shines is against the C350 and 335i, where the limited slip and crisper steering really help. I think against the C63 and E80 M3 it will have a harder time differentiating itself, but I'm willing to bet it holds its own.

At this point, all of these cars are going to have issues standing out from the crowd. It's kind of disappointing.

I liked it two generations ago when the E46, W203, and B7 all had unique identities.

Well I think it's going to start coming down to longevity an quality with these engines. I think this engine will end up in at least the cts, ats, corvette, and camaro.

Cadillac has had a great turn around. One of the big pluses with the CTS on the used market is their reliability. It will be really interesting to see the reliability of these new turbo engines, especially with the not so reliable BMW and Audi turbo engines.

I am very interested in an ATS-V come 3 to 4 years from now in the used market, which is when I'll be looking to move from my '11 335i.

I believe all GM cars come with a 5yr/100,000 powertrain warranty. So that should help ease realiability questions. Plus they have a good track record anyways.

That and the fact that the TT 3.6 utilizes 90% of the parts of the NA 3.6....they even took into consideration that many owners like to track their cars even tested at the track to be sure oil pickup wouldnt be an issue during higher g cornering....nice touch GM.

I believe 90% of the parts were different than the NA 3.6. Different castings for the block, head, forged crank, etc. With peak torque beginning at 2500rpm, and the turbos running 12psi stock, I've read speculations that they should flow well enough for 600whp when cranked up.

http://media.gm.com/media/us/en/gm/n...f3-engine.html

Nice article on the engine tech. Looks very promising for when it winds up in the ats-v. Stick shift, lsd, and 600hp potential sounds pretty cool if the weight stays in check to preserve the good handling dynamics.

This appears to be a great design and still keeping with the caddy theme. With that new TT Motor inside it will be a serious contender. With the ATS and now this, I believe BMW, MB and Audi can no longer ignore Caddy. I know the auto mags can no longer leave them out of the comparison issues.

If this new engine is available in the cts sports wagon & awd form, I am thinking of getting one as my winter ride.
