Great thanks guys. I just ordered a set of stoptech street pads off Amazon.com

Pricing was very cheap on Amazon.

$140 for (1) set StopTech 309.09180 and (1) set 309.09190 Street Performance Front Brake Pads - Shipped next day.

I would say that the stock pad is good enough for a begginer on the track. I still have stock pads and used them on the Nurburgring, this is a 12 mile course and I was for my first time on the track very brake happy with my car to say and I had no brake fade towards the end, just some metal ticking and heat waves. I will at somepoint upgrade to a better system being that this is technically the weak point of our car.

Stick with what the others say on here and just learn with the stock pads. You will not notice a significant difference from one to the other at this time in your drive to push the car to its limits, safely.

EDIT: JUST NOTICED YOU PURCHASED ALREADY. MAYBE SAVE THEM FOR LATER.

Good luck on the track. I think you will really enjoy them. I used the Street Performance pads extensively on my StopTech BBK and braking was very consistent even in the hands of pro racing drivers.

you also do not come close to achieving the speeds that you would with experience. And it's a waste of money because you are upgrading for nothing. i never had brake fade when i started...and when i started noticing it i upgraded pads...

you also mentioned they faded their brakes in various cars. cool. i'm talking about the M3. the pads are more than capable of handling light track use

different people will have different opinions. you can't fault someone for getting better pads, it's just not useful in the initial stages. this is my personal opinion and one that many share. either way, OP bought them. no sense in dragging the topic further

Thanks to all of you. I have just installed the Stoptech pads and they are much better. Havent tested them on the track yet but I got to play around a little.

They feel more like my Cayman brakes. Less initial bite but more progressive stopping power!

Cool, they also dust less. Much better on track, better feel, less dust, and cheaper. No brainer!

Pagid Yellow RS19, front only is sufficient.

Turner, among others, sells them.

I started out with stock pads and noticed them fade by the end of my first track day with the car (did some auto-x with other cars, but never actual tracking). Next couple days I went with the stoptechs which gave me no problems (tight, relatively low-speed course). When I got the opportunity to drive on a real (indy) track, I upgraded the fronts to PFC-06 since this track had three consecutive 110 mph+ to <30 stops in a row. The combination held up well with my relatively high treadwear tires (extremecontact dw). Keep in mind that the tire choice will have a large influence on how much heat you put into your brakes, sticky tires are much harder on the pads than street tires.

The PFC-06s were not particularly kind on the street though, after a few days of squealing, they began grinding pretty loudly.

Good luck with the pads & enjoy them.

Do some experimenting and get some PFC08's next time. I've run 34 sessions on my PFC's and they have a little less than half the life remaining. The tracks I go to are not easy on the brakes either; VIR, Road Atlanta, & AMP.

Dec. 29th will be my first time ever (provided the weather forecast improves) and I will be running Project Mu Club Racers, Castrol SRF, and 275 square RS3s. Hopefully it goes well!

Agreed have PFC's 08 and there great! Little noise on the street though, but tolerable. Also run at road atlanta and AMP.

Do the PFC 08 have the OEM style anti-rattle clip? I would never recommend pads without the clips for beginners. I've had very good experience with the Pagid RS 19 yellows, 3 years on and still have a weekend left on.

Also guys you cannot a generalize for beginners, some go from novice to advanced in 4-5 events, so not everyone is cut from the same cloth. Brake pads are absolutely a safety item, unlike tack tires which can wait.

After my first event I went the gradual route and I regret it deeply, what a waste of money. If you put heavy deposits on the rotors quickly you will know what expensive means. Just skip the intermediate steps and get the right pads from the get go.

Why the clips? Besides making funny noises I don't see why a beginner would need them?

I wasn't clear about this. Most will have some wear on OEM pads since they use them everyday. For a noob...be sure to put in some new pads. As the pads get lower, they wear faster and transfer more heat to your brake fluid. For example, it might take 4 days to wear a new pad to 50% but it might take 2 to wear a 50% pad down to the backing plate. Then your dust boot will catch fire...ask me how I know.

Reminds me...I am going to add measuring rotor and pad thickness to my post track checks.

What's the best way to measure rotor thickness? Any specific caliper?

Beginner or instructor, if you run on OEM brakes I still say stay away from clip less pads. My friend, a poster here, had one of his PF front pads disintegrate on track at VIR a month ago, fortunately without any collateral incident. I may be paranoid, but I don't trust a pad without a locating clip, in a caliper designed for it. Who knows how much extra stress the constant rattling is inducing, and it's a complication that I don't want to deal with, even if it's just in my head.

My Pagids have been absolutely flawless, I'll stick with them.

Beginners can be very hard on the brakes through misuse. I know from experience .

Exactly. I ran PFC01 without rattle clips before bbk and they performed very well overall (other than being very noisy on the street). YMMV.

Yes they do.

I'm about to yank mine off to work with Titanium plates vs removing material on the plates.

Any good quality digital caliper from Amazon will work.

I'm going to get this Caliper. It clears the lip on rotors that are worn.
