Apple screwed me, advice?
My iPhone 5 has battery issues since the day I bought it. It turns off at say, 53% as if it is dead. As soon as I put on a charger it comes back to life and is at 53%. It sometimes charges 1% over hours, or the phone will stay at say, 25% for 4 hours even though I'm watching a movie.
I went to apple and they could not replicate the issue and said if it happens again to come back. It happened yesterday so I went back to apple. This was their response, "there seems to be a slight bend in your phone, this can happen from simply being in your pocket. This voids your warranty and there's nothing we can do except out of warranty replacement" I explained I have never sat on my phone, not dropped it, and it's never left its case. There was even notes on my account that I was there for this issue the day after I bought the phone. I spoke to the manager who was a female that just didn't know anything, or stood by the techs decision. I basically yanked my phone out of his hands and left. What do I do now? I put my phone on a flat surface and don't even see this "bend". And even if there is... My warranty is void for carrying my phone in my POCKET?? Any suggestions? Phone is 4 months old. |

If you can take it to a different Apple store. Apple tried screwing me about MacBook Pros but I stood my ground and got a replacement. Bending an iPhone5 is awfully difficult and shouldn't happen even if it's in your pocket. They should also atleast run a diagnostic test while you're in store. One of the so called "Genius" (who may I add know less than anyone who's got any idea about Apple products)
Also have you tried googleing this issue? |

Yes and the only battery issues I've seen on google is short lift issues. Mines not so much short life, but rather a malfunction of the battery. I'm 99.9999% positive the battery or phone is defective and they just won't replace this damn thing.

Do you have apple care? Keep pressing if you do. I would go to Another apple store if you can.
After a malfunction in my MacBook, the upper west side store in manhattan tried to fix it three times but failed. I then went to the fifth avenue store and they simply replaced it with the equivalent updated MacBook Pro in five minutes. If you don't have that option and bought it on Amex you have a one year extended warranty and can call them. |

But they have notes on my account of me coming in the day after I got the phone complaining about the battery issues. So the issue was there prior to me even having the chance to damage the phone |

I had a similar problem with my 4s. It would be on the charger for hours and get extremely hot, not hold a charge etc.. I took it back to my service provider (Verizon) complained about the situation, left the phone with them for several hours and... Same as you they couldn't replicate the problem! I told them I wanted my phone replaced, I was still under 1yr manufacture warranty like you. I was pretty irritated at the whole ordeal at the store, and the manager understood my aggravation and took care of me and I had a new phone within a couple days. I also have 5 lines with them and a large data package so they may have taken that into consideration as well.
Good luck. |

Had a audio reception problem with my Iphone 4 where the other person couldn't hear me. Took it to the apple store and they gave me a free (refurbished) phone since I was under the 1 year warranty mark. It still works great! I think it's about how you approach them that determines the outcome. FYI I'm on AT&T

Go into Apple, the same one or a different one and stand your ground. 4-5 months owning a phone and it dying regularly isn't on!
As someone said, credit cards provide insurance most of the time! Best of luck! |

Did you try restoring it? Sounds like a software issue

Definitely take it to another Apple store and see if they give it the same diagnosis.
I used to be a huge Apple booster but I think that their outsourcing and struggle to meet demand has really impacted their product's quality in recent years. Just this year I had my 15" Macbook Pro replaced twice, my son's iPhone 4s replaced, and my new iPhone 5 replaced (camera stopped focusing). Good luck! |

It really depends on the tech and the manager you get. Don't be an asshole or it won't help. Ask to talk to a SR. Manager. Good luck.

What a coincidence!!!
I just had the same problem with battery life. I called apple and they put me on the phone with some lady who then sent me to support. Basically they walked me through a process Save everything on your phone, then wipe everything, and then reinstall some new software. Took about an hour with the lady over the phone. They even gave me 15gb in icloud for free! Phone battery is amazing now This should help you out big time buddy! |

im not sure about the iphone 5 but when i had the iphone 4 my phone turned off around 50% once or twice in a week like it had died. Then the sound stopped working from the speakers but worked with headphones which was weird. I took it in and they gave me a replacement phone because i was still under the 1 year warranty period. However the guy at the apple store told me that a hard reset of the phone would fix the battery issue...not 100% sure if it'll work on the iphone 5 but you could try that

go to another Apple store. There are two Apple stores 10 minutes away from me. One of them NEVER wants to fix my problems or try to charge me. The other is the complete opposite and will change things without even testing or asking.
Once my charger broke (wouldn't charge anything) and I was well over the 1 year warranty. The person at the nice apple store didn't even ask me how old the charger was or anything. They just handed me a new box and left me on my way.

Buy a $25-$35 OEM iPhone 5 Battery from Ebay and replace it yourself. It will void your warranty (If you even still have one) and you better make sure it is OEM.
As for the install complexity level... My grandma could do it.
