+1, but it is a good point to start negotiations if you decide to trade it in also.

Carmax offered me $2,500 more for my 1997 328is when I bought my 2002 M3 than the BMW dealer (I sold it to Carmax). Then when I was trading the 2002 M3 last fall, Carmax offered less than the BMW dealer, but the BMW dealer raised it's offer on the 2002 M3 by $1,000 when I talked about taking it to Carmax. Needless to say I traded that car to the BMW dealer.

Well if the tax credit when buying/trading the car equals carmax that would be a good negotiation too. That is what I did with my g35 when I went to purchase my car. After the tax-credit for trading the vehicle into them it matched the carmax offer.

The sales tax advantage of trading the car in has to be included in the price you get for your old vehicle from a 3rd party (rather than trading it in).

Yes I understand that, but they can get change the amount they give you on trade + sales tax adv to give you roughly the same price as carmax. Point being, carmax is a good first stop to negotiate trade.

If your car is worth more than $7800, doing an "in and out" at a stealership is an option. Basically, you find a buyer for your old car and you bring them into the dealership. You sell your car to the dealership for the price (minus some required profit, usually $500) and they turn around and sell it to your buyer for the price you agreed to with your buyer. This will net you the tax benefit equal to trade towards the new car. The few gotchas is that the dealership will have to make a profit on your car, so they basically charge you a fee to do the in and out. Also, documentation fees through the dealership will exceed the cost of your buyer doing it alone because dealerships have to pay inventory taxes on their sales. You would have to consider all of these items to determine if this option is viable for you; however, in the end it can benefit you greatly. It saved me about $4k (in taxes) when I switched out of my Audi S5 and into my E90 M3.

A good friend of mine is selling his 5,200 mi 2008 AW/gray/tech package/manual trans E92 M3. The car is pretty much perfect. It's posted here: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=389714. If you're looking for a slightly used E92 M3, I think it would be very hard to find a better one.

My friend is doing Euro delivery on a 2011 version of pretty much the same car (+ the comp package) in the fall.

Here's a pic of the car I took at Cars & Coffee earlier this year:

I'm sure they're both quick. I just think the aesthetic modifications are tacky.

Or, Nawaaz really was the catalyst (or more accurately, removed catalysts).

That's a reminder; how did DevJ's new exhaust work turn out?

A meet at the end of the month sounds good.

We should have a mini meet (non- C&C) this month. Hopefully we all will have our wheels on by then. I still have not heard Dev's setup in person. Gotta see if Phillip and Cal can get free too.
