sorry i should ave clarified. I have an e93 m3, I traded in my speed6 the other week. the mazdaspeed6's had crappy hid's they were the same as the e46's. I had retrofitted fx35 projectors into the headlights resulting in a huge improvement and then later upgraded to s2000 projectors which are allegedly the best single xenon hid on the market.

so now that i have my e93 m3 i am sorta happy with the output but I could see room for improvement or even just swapping the lens for a clear lens. I was wondering if anyone has done this yet? or if anyone knows what projector is in our car (m3)

Just change the bulb, get some HID halos, and call it a day. Trust BMW on this one.

what bulb do we have from the factory? phillips 85122+?

here is a repost from a hid comparision I did on mazda6club with my Nikon D90 shooting the same speed, same lighting conditions. obviously I dont have an m3 headlight to compare here but the mazda6 hid is the single xenon e46 projector. I wonder how our (e92 m3) headlight holds up against the fx35 projector

OEM Mazdaspeed6 HID with OSRAM Xenarc 4300k bulb

OEM Mazdaspeed6 HID with Apexcone 6000k bulb

Fx35 with TSX Lense and OSRAM Xenarc bulb 4300k

Fx35 with TSX Lense and Apexcone 6000k bulb

TSX with TSX replica lens colormodded 2 washers bottom and 1 washer top and Osram Xenarc 4300k bulb

TSX with TSX replica lens colormodded 2 washers bottom and 1 washer top and Apexcone 6000k bulb

S2k non colormodded and Osram Xenarc 4300k bulb

S2k non colormodded and Phillips 85122 4300k bulb

S2k non colormodded and Apexcone 6000k bulb

As you can see the OEM projector is garbage, not a sharp cutoff, dismal light output. the s2k doesnt look as bright as the fx and the tsx because the s2k is mounted inside the headlight already which messes with the output alittle. the oem hid is also still mounted in the headlight which dims the output slightly.

Your M3 has D1S bulbs and you are better off asking HIDplanet.com, only a handful of people retrofit their cars when they have OEM HIDs. Judging by the headlight size I think you could probably fit a FX with TSX clear lens, or even maybe squeeze in a TL? (TL + ZKW lens would be sweet....)
