503 Motoring: Passport 9500ci install pictures

Although this isn't an M3, this is a great example of an install that we can do on an M3!

This review was written by Tim (503 Motoring owner):
***PASSPORT 9500ci install in a CL550***pics
Here is the install we just completed on the new PASSPORT 9500ci system, Full custom install on a 2009 Mercedes CL550. We had outfitted this cars with 503 Suspension and VOSSEN 078 wheels prior to the install.

Enjoy!!!

Removal and tear down

Then we remove the instrument panel and start the "sphincter clincher"

By gaining access we can install the LED and Display screen into the cluster for stealth and aesthetics.

I wanted to flush mount the display but the circuit board for the panel was too close and I didn't want any interference.

All done and you cant even tell. I was even able to keep the inspection sticker in tact because it was not properly installed at the factory

Then on to the Radar antennae. I mounted this on top of the bumper reinforcement bar, it is just below the grill and completely out of the way with nothing metal to obstruct the performance.

Then the Shifters were mounted in the lower grill area behind the meshing. This particular meshing is large enough not block the signal from the Shifters and provides a very stealthy install. I loomed these in with the Mercedes harness and wrapped in the same OEM tape.

And back on we go.

Found a great access into the cabin

Now on to the rear shifter and the GPS antennea. First we need some access...

Then I found the perfect spot in the trunk lid. The lid is a FRP composite so the OEM GPS and SAT RAD antennas are located here, I found a perfect little pocket and mounted the antenna then loomed in like before.

The rear shifter was a bit more fun, I am a very symmetrical person so by nature this needed to be in the middle, where that is the lift latch and license lamp location so no go there. I opted to tuck it up and back on the same platform but just off to the right.

I wanted the control Module and USB update port to be accessible so I found a great spot behind the drivers side dash access plate.

I shortened and replugged all wires then loomed and wrapped in OEM wool tape.

The access to the update port is perfect.

Now to wrap it all up and test the system.

Green light! check

Display screen! Check.

Stealthy shifters! Check.

Stealthy dash! CHECK...

Thanks for the comments guys! All of the credit for the install goes to Tim (503 Motoring owner).

Great install!!! You can see my K40 Calibre indash install in a nearby thread. I really wanted the 9500 built in but the lack of rear radar detection killed the deal.

That looks great. Can you PM me with a ballpark price of the install?

Great job installing. But I believe the shifters will lose a lot of their effectiveness behind the grill, right?

Thanks! Not typically, only a few of the diodes need the signal to trigger the alert. The grill does have to have big enough opening for it to work. This wouldn't work if the grill was a tight mesh.

Awesome install! I'm looking to get this system. Would the sensors work behind the M3 mesh in the front? Wish I was in the area.

Thanks! The jammers will work in the mesh on the front of the M3, Pencil Geek is running this set-up with the jammers behind the mesh on a Passport 9500ci.

Thanks guys! This install will run $2200-2600 for the M3 including the 9500ci.

Slick install. Maybe even worth a drive down! I'm still debating on whether to go with the ci or a windshield unit.

I presume because it doesn't have a clear "view". Does that mean that only windshield units have 360 degree protection?

There was another thread that went to great lengths discussing that there is significant degredation behind the mesh and a much better chance for punchthrough on the laser. Can someone clarify this? It's a big investment to not have it work... and costly when you find out it doesn't when the cop walks up to your car!

Me too. Hence the questions above. I think I've settled the 9500 v. V1 debate, in my mind (people have very loyal allegiance both ways), and am thinking it's worth the custom install for the 9500ci, but for the $$$$, want to know it works like a charm, from all sides...

Also have issue with a jammer in Colorado.

P.S. By the way, 503... great install. Real clean. Here's to "take the time, do it right."

P.S.S I find it hard to believe Escort would have their premier model that didn't perform as well as their windshield models. But stranger things have happened...

We work directly with Escort, and their research has determined that the larger mesh openings don't affect performance. Smaller mesh openings do, however, and an alternative would need to be found in some cases.
