Greetings from a new member

Greetings,

After driving my previous E46 for almost 10 years, I decided it was time for a change and to kick it up a notch. I picked up a Silverstone DCT M3 last week and finally found time to write my first post here to share some thoughts.

Now I must admit, I've been in and driven a lot of different cars in the past. Some will make me fall asleep, some giggle like a little girl while others will make me scream in excruciating pain (i.e.. GTR).

The M3 in my opinion is just incredible at the way it makes you feel, the engine just sings beautifully, the acceleration explosive at the higher end of the RPM range and handling unbelievably communicative. The last few days, I've been on a few routes to typical places that I frequent and I'm shocked at how much more enjoyable this car has made the commute.

I'm psyched to join this community and look forward to meeting all of you.

Cheers,
HamburglarM3

Thanks for the warm welcome

So far I find the car pretty easy to drive but one thing that is puzzling me is how the DCT tranny is always at 7th gear (good for gas) but say I want to pass someone on the highway, by the time the gear box figures this out and pops down a gear or two and finally makes power at the higher RPM band, the other car is GONE!!!

Any tip to remediate this? What do you guys typically do?

If my DCT is in"auto" I usually run setting 4 and it will downshift with very little tip in at highway speeds. If it is manual pull on the left paddle when you open the throttle all the way to the detent switch and it will go right to the lowest gear that it will accept with no delay!Quite eyeopening!

Just to clarify, do you pull and hold (so that it will downshift to the lowest possible gear at the current speed) and THEN you throttle all the way down?

Thanks for the tip!

Pull and hold paddle, then mash the throttle. Be sure to have all attention on the road, no coffee or cell phone in hand, and ample open road ahead!

Ok, maybe i shouldn't have said excruciating, that's an over exaggeration.
Not sure if you have been in one / driven one but the insane acceleration and lightning quick turn in capabilities along with the grip creates some impressive G-force that'll definitely make your heart pump a bit faster.

In my books, I think that is by far one of the most impressive vehicles on the road today.

I just tried this the other day and didn't work, probably didn't MASH the throttle. Do you have to floor it completely?

I just reread the manual and it says:
Rapid downshifting: to accelerate rapidly, e.g.
when passing, you can skip several gears in
sequential mode. To do so, press the accelerator
past the resistance point and pull the left
shift paddle once or press the selector lever forward
once. This provides maximum acceleration.

Let me know if this is right:

So say i'm in 7th in Sequential mode:
- Floor accelerator completely and hold
- Pull left lever once
- Hang on to dear life
