Oem ssk lever

Had anyone swapped the oem shift lever for a shorter BMW one. This was a popular mod on the e46 m3. For $60 you would get the 330d shift lever which had shorter throws and worked great in the e46m3.

Anyone try this out on the e92 m3? I like the idea of sticking w oem.

For a shorter knob, the LeatherZ Illuminated E46 ZHP shift knob is a popular choice, though fairly expensive especially if you want to keep the OEM shift pattern emblem. As for SSKs, that's actually a separate mod from a shorter knob. Shorter knobs mean somewhat shorter shifts because the radius of the shift arc is shorter, but you'd need an SSK for larger reductions. UUC seems to be a widespread option, though opinions seem mixed.

I don't think that's something that has been done here and I have been looking myself because I did something similar on my zhp with a z4 3.0 shift lever.

You need dimensions to confirm that it is indeed shorter otherwise it is trial and error and can be costly as the parts are no return parts.

You could also explore with these below but the shifting arm and rods' length and orientation don't look anywhere closer to the way they are setup on the m3:

Otherwise, retrofitting the F10 shift knob may provide some relief as the knob is lower giving some feel of shorter throws. I haven't done it so can't comment much there..

I did this on my e46, I used a Z3M rod and a ZHP knob. So far I didn't do an ssk on the M but I did put in the F10 M5 shift knob on and I'm good for now.

That should work, considering the one it would be replacing looks somewhat the same to the m3 oem lever. For that you could give it a try and see how it goes.

BMW has different performance SSK for E90 325i, 330i, and 335i. All different part numbers. I would not buy one on a guess. UUC makes one for the M3 but it has a bend like the stock one. The ball is located differently, which is what changes the throw, and the knob height is adjustable, which allows some range in additional required effort though typically limited by the owner's idea of what looks good.

Just get a lower knob. When you put the Rogue Octane Short Shift Kit lever next to a factory lever the factory piece is actually shorter!
How come a short shift kit lever is longer than stock? No idea, but it goes to show the good folks at Rogue Engineering thought the factory lever was already short enough / too short and they just worked on the precision..

I pretty sure the Rogue has a longer handle for driver reach/placement, but a slightly shorter throw. The linkage below the boot/floorpan dictates the throw.

I have a Rogue shifter, bud added the ZCP weighted knob, and it works great!

Your idea is sound as keeps it in the family, unfortunately you are going to be the guinea pig via trial and error if you wish to use a shorter non-m3 bmw lever. As you can see thus far this has not yet been done hence the advise from most folks to go for a/m ssk.

Oh definitely shorter throws, but compared to the position of the knob on the factory lever the Rogue SSK places the same knob a little higher up. I, too have the Rogue Octane and while I love the shorter distance between shifts I wish it was just slightly lower.
If OP is after a lower gear selector I think he'd have to go with UUC or AA.
