Yeah getting married and having kids sucks! I had to buy an E90 M3 and get picked on because I have 4-doors.

I think wives understand it more if its a track car, like it has a purpose and there is a reason for all the work, time and money. If its the car you go to work in, get groceries, drive your kids ect, I think they are much less understanding. In my experience I see a lot more married guys at race tracks sometimes with their families where its much less common to see them out at late night car meets or whatever.

My parents have been together since high school and each spouse indulges in their respective hobbies. My mom doesn't say anything when my dad spends $2,500 on a 9500ci and he can't say anything when she buys a stupid $3,000 purse.

My guess [I'm only 19] is that who ever you marry will have at least one thing they love to spend money on that you find idiotic, you'll probably have the same thing to them as well. As long as everyone gets equal indulgence and your finances are in good order, just enjoy.

My sister and I are both off to college now and my Mom has still never owned an SUV. She always had sport sedans: a C Classes, 5 Series', 7 series'. Granted we bought a Jeep to beat around and put the dog in, but it wasn't her DD

I don't know, I didn't even start modding until after I was married and my son had his first birthday, so I don't see any reason why it has to end. Sure, your priorities definitely change, and you have to manage your time and money in such a way that there's enough to go around to meet all of your obligations and commitments, as well as your family's needs and wants.

But then I got very lucky with my wife. She really doesn't try to control me at all, which I guess is not the case with everyone.

No issue what so ever. My wife hasn't changed a bit, hell she was the one said told me to buy what I want. The nice thing is we each make our own money, so after savings and putting money into a joint account for our expensives, what is left is our own.

Your wife should not have a problem with your hobbies.

30 years of Marriage: Cars

Upside: Certain doors open when married versus single. (Especially when you are in your Twenties)
Downside: Responsibility. Have to start thinking things thru versus impulsive actions. Can't just run down and buy a Pontiac T/A WS6, no matter how much you beg. House comes before car toys.

Upside: Dual income and excellent credit means better cars
Downside: Less, much less, modifications allowed to these cars

Upside: Wife takes interest in exotic passion. Salesmen take you serious. Allowed to test drive things that usually only possible for the wealthy or journalists.
Downside: Wife knows too much of exotic cars weaknesses with regard to maintenance upkeep. Knows what it costs to maintain F355. Calls you an idiot. Switch tactics, come across the "BAD BOYS II" F550 driven by Will Smith, go on and on how the F550 is the most reliable of the modern Ferrari. Wife notices something curious, crawls under the car (while in the showroom), declares this car has been rear ended and states ain't no way a wrecked F550 is worth $120K. Salesmen shocked. She's right. We walked.

Upside: Buying first "exotic".
Downside: It was the wife's choice, I didn't get a Ferrari

Upside: Wife willing to consider another "exotic" in a few years once finances/economy stabilizes.
Downside: It will probably be hers, (it is a good choice) but it still won't be a Ferrari.

Well it appears that your wife has your best interest to make fiscally sound decisions! I like your point about dual incomes and hey, at least you're in the ball park of considering a ferrari soon

27 here done modding. Instead of modding I just get faster more expensive toys. I used to drive modded cars but nowadays all I see are douchebags driving rimmed up cars. I have friends with family that still drive EVO'S STI M3. I dont see the need to sell a toy to drive a boring van and start buying clothes at Costco. When I was a kid my dad had a Tercel. I used to go to the baseball park in a Chevy Citation II, Escort, Tempo, 323 , Omni(friends parents cars). This SUV craze is getting out of hand. A corolla fits 2 kids so does a 335 no problem.

Some people are so boring it's not even funny. All my friends are cool dads driving high hp cars, riding bikes still listening to hip hop still partying. BTW I saw some people that I used to go to HS with man what a boring life they seem to have van+small house+ugly costco closest (midlife crisis will hit eventually)

I never tell the wife that I am moding though....and If she ever asks
(Which she does here and there)
I tell her, "What are you talking about, that was there...That tells me how much you care about my things" Then she starts saying she is sorry. I Win......I think....

Ohhh, by the way...My lil girl when she was 2.5yrs old she kinda modded my car herself...In a way.

SHE SAID....""DADDY I MAKE CAH PITTY""....!

My wife hated when i modded my 350z and G37.

She loves me fixing up the BMW though. Constantly getting new parts delivered and she is just as excited as I am. As long as the car isn't "too low" and the spoiler isn't "too big" I seem to be good to go. Although she never drove the Z or G and now is constantly running errands and sneaking the keys to the BMW.
