Cut off?

I was rushing back to the office for a meeting, and there is a 2 lanes left turn signal.
I was on the right and need to turn left in the first street.
I floored and after I saw more than 2-3 car length clearance, I changed to the left lane and turn left. it happened like within 10 sec.
And then
she walked into the office lobby and yelled at me:
Are you in that BMW? You cut me off!!!!!
I said, no, i didn't, there was 2-3 car lengths...
I am going to report you!

was that considered a "cut off"?
I didn't affect her at all and she didn't even need to react to my driving....

this doesn't surprise me. women are generally terrible drivers. couple that with there erratic temperament, and you've got a loud mouth c-word on your hands.

report you? to whom, the police? as if they could even do anything when they didn't see it. the only thing you probably did was change lanes over a solid white line.

Did you use your blinker? Some people might feel like they have been cut off if they didn't see a blinker.

Exactly how many lanes did you move over from the right to left and in how short a distance? You might have cut off someone you didn't even see. People who cut over 3 lanes from the right to make a left turn at the last moment piss me off... like if you know you're going to make a left turn, get in the left lane early. If you miss your turn, miss it and make a U turn later. Don't go sweeping across a lanes.

Based on what you say in your post (which isn't 100% clear), here are some thoughts:

a) If you knew you needed to be in the left lane to make your next turn, it was just a bit douch-y, IMHO, not to use the left-most lefthand turn lane available at the intersection before. I know this is a debateable point but, in general, you really don't know that you are going to have that opportunity to get back over before your next turn, right? You have no idea how traffic might go. So, in theory you could easily be putting yourself into a situation whereby you'll be forced to cut someone off in order to make your next turn. The one exception to this, I would say, is if you are the lead car at the light. In that case, you can always be first to your next turn. Well, unless you get caught next to a lineup of GTRs, 911 GT3s, Mustang GT500s, etc.

b) If you used your brakes to make the second turn, even for just a second or two, that was, IMHO, not cool. People don't know what you are going to do when you tap your brakes, so they are often forced to brake too. I hate when people jump in front of me and use the brakes. Hate it. So I consider it rude and make ever attempt not to do the same to others.

c) If you didn't signal the lane change, you're a double douche - sorry but it is true. However, if you did signal, then that plays into what I said in (b). That is, since you were coming over a lane, she may not have known that your signal was also on to make the next turn. Now, I am assuming it would have to have been since it sounds like the two turns were pretty close in succession. If there was a big enough gap between the lane change and the second turn then it is not such an issue, but again, it is still a lot of "nonsense" going on in front of another driver who is just trying to go on about there business.

Even if u did use the blinker...BMW doesnt make it any easier on us with the triple turn signal blink...the world already thinks we're pricks...this just adds insult to the injury by giving us this feature

So if someone jumps in front of you and nails the brakes, you only get pissed off if they gave you one car length or less? Right...

She's over-reacting. Ok, so you cut her off. Why she gotta chase you into the lobby to yell "You cut me off!!!!!"? I bet she's the type that, when people desperately need to change lanes in heavy traffic (blinker's going, handsignals, look at her w/ pleading look, etc), intentionally move forward to block the path.

correct...because they could potentially cause an accident by maneuvering like that..not give the person enough time to react...i know i will be able to brake on time with these 14in cross drilled rotors, but then that puts me at risk of the guy behind me not realizing i was cut off and he rams my rear end.

if u miss your turn or exit...its not that hard to get off at the next one or make a uturn...yet people continue to think they can squeeze in at the last min and slam on the brakes....it should be safety first.

ive seen idiots on the far #1 lane on a 5 lane hwy cut all the way across to the right 800 feet before the exit ramp...because they werent paying attention...if that happens, just go and get off at the next..why risk the lives of other drivers?

Ok, but my point is that you said "one car length or less". I have to call BS on that. First off, it depends on speed, but secondly one car length is way too short unless you are moving at parking garage speeds or something. The reality is you should give other drivers as much room as you would expect from them in the same situation if the tables were turned. For me that is whatever it takes for them to not force me to hit my brakes or otherwise impeded my progress unnecessarily. I'd say this is probably a good three car lengths at typical surface street speed (say 45mph). That's for a lane change only. If you pull a lane change and then hit the brakes, well, you had better have given me at least six car lenghts or so, or I will whip around you and fill your ears full of some S65 at WOT.

Yes, i did use the signal light.
Maybe i should have played nice, apologize, and give her a hug.

i agree..maybe i wrote it wrong...my point of one car length or less...ill give an example...if im driving 65mph on the highway and u pull in front of me so close to the point that i can see the bird shit on your rear bumper, then thats TOO CLOSE and thats a cut off...slamming on the brakes after that is even more sinful.

Yeah, given all of that then it sounds like she was chugging some haterade just before. People love to hate a guy in a BMW. If you were driving an Accord and did that, she would not have bothered to come after you. Though she probably would still be irked simply because she clearly is wound too tight.

there was around 2-3 car length and the speed is around 25-30....that was plenty of space....and accelerating the whole way....did not slow down at all...75% floored on the E93 DCT.... when i passed her during the turn, i've heard her Maxima wheels were squeaking though...
