Help - Stripped E92 oil draining screw
Hi all,
It's my first time changing oil on my E92 by myself and I had no problem removing the screw toward the back of the car. However when I tried to remove the one in the front, first I used M6 allen and it felt like it's starting to strip so I got scared and used a Torx 30 key and hammered a lil then I tried to unscrew and it didn't help either. I tried to fit M6 allen again and it seems it's not stripped but at this point I am not sure what to do - can I use my Ryobi electric impact driver on it? Car is out of oil I can't even move it off the race ramps.. Thanks, jared Last edited by cheweihu; 01-09-2016 at 04:23 PM.. |

You can try it. Try a quick burst but don't over do it.
First, go get a new screw to make sure you have a replacement on hand If that doesn't work See if you can use the 6MM bit to manually get the screw out. You may also have luck by: 1. Try a different hex socket. Some cheap ones may be looser of a fit 2. Use an EZ out extracter. Since you have a internal hex, you shouldn't have to drill a hole which will save you time. Thanks for all the tips guys!
Finally got it out and had the job done. Tried another (presumably better quality) bit and found this in the other thread really true "...The key with removing these is to clean out where the 6mm hex is inserted, make sure it's fully inserted, and keep upwards pressure on it while loosening and tightening and torqueing..." and I am glad the oil changing kit from Tischer BMW comes with new draining plugs and washers. |
