Exclamation

In 1994 a friend had a dark blue metallic, cream interior E36 with the 282 hp engine. I promised myself I would own one sometime.

It was a summer day, I must have been 14 years old. My neighbor had just bought a brand new red Toyota Supra and would meet with his car friends every weekend. Im sitting outside admiring the guys Supra, Nissan 240sx, MB C36, Audi 100 S4 and this yellow e36 M3 flies down the street. It had a full dinan exhaust system and lowered ride height. It was the attention of everyone. The car just raced and cruised around the neighborhood all day. That single day stood in my mind till the day I ordered my M3 (Dec '12). I cant wait to receive her.

I had only sat as a passenger in a freinds 325 ci with 200 000 kms , and remember thinking " jeezuz christ " it's like Mars in here compared to other cars . Loved the luxury/sportiness combo . The sound of the engine and tranny as it shifted hard.
A year later i was in a 1M , and then E46 and Now E92

It all started off with my first car a 328i sedan 1998. It was all M look wise, sold that 4 years later and got a 2003 e46 M cabriolet, loved everything the car gave me, got the super sprint back box and fell in love with the screaming notes when the top was down, had a really useless accident, sold it. Got a 2007 997 tt loved the handling and power u got with bolt ons. Killed so many cars on the highway, loved it. But with that tremendous amount of power u don't exactly hear the noise u expect. Eventually sold it and got a 2011 e90 M, I just installed a gintani resonated xpipe with a sport back and I got to say it sounds mean!

Around 1990, I picked up an issue of MotorTrend or Car and Driver (I'm fairly sure I did this because of the curvy woman on the cover). Inside was an article about some dudes special e30 M3. Had an interior similar to this:

Do not remember if the interior or anything else on the car was custom, but I was in love (with the car, not the girl).

Thanks for posting, please do members here a favor and reduce the size of your attached photo. As you can see it makes reading other posts on page 2 very difficult.

You can do this by searching on Google for "Optimize Photo Size" you will find a site that allows you to reduce the file size and dimensions of your photo. Unless you use another site or program to do this. Let us know if you need help and we be happy to help you out.

Thanks, Rolf-Dieter

Everyone else Thanks for sharing your stories with us .. Fun to read all about how we all got hooked on a great ride

Grabbed it from a vbforum with a resize mod in place, so I didn't see the actual size. Fixed for ya.

In high school in the early 90's my friend had a 325, that I got to drive occationally. He wrecked it, and he conversed his parents to get him a slightly used E30 M3 to replace it We had a lot of fun with that car. My parents then got an E36 325 when I was in college, and the first BMW I purchased was our M5 back in '05.

I fell in love with the E92 M3 in '09 while at M School.

Interesting thread/question. After having owned an E46 wagon and an E60, I was on my second E60 when I attended a Susan G. Komen/BMW "Ultimate Drive" cancer fundraiser in 2008. BMW brought every model they had, all in white, to our local dealership. After studying the beautiful lines on the E92 ///M3 for a long time, I took one out for a 30 minute spin with my salesman friend. First time I drove an ///M car. And I said to my friend, "who would want/need a car like this?" And now I am on my second E92 ///M3...

First BMW was my ex'es '84 318i. I think it had around 9 hp but it could handle any turn and I took quite a few with the e-brake. It was more fun around town than my 5.0 Mustang.

Fast forward a couple decades and I had the chance to get a good car for both DD and track use. Didn't want the M3 because I usually see a half dozen 3-series cars on my 1.5 mile commute. Then I drove one and started looking. Then I tracked my friend's E92 and bought mine a week later.

I've often said I want a decent house and a 16 car garage. An M3 was on that list since I read the same article mentioned above so many years ago.

The first e30 M3 I saw sealed it for me..I dreamed of owning an M3 when I was younger but it was just beyond my reach and had made the decision to purchase a home first. So I am thrilled to finally realize my childhood dream of owning one of the greatest cars ever made

I have always been into cars. Definately heard about M3's since the e30 version came out. However what really made me lust for one was when a friend of mine leased an e46 M3 convertible back in 2003. Took her for a spin and told him right afterwards "I am going to get one soon one day". Finally took the plunge two years ago when my finances allowed me to.

As for my friend, he never drove it much. The car had only 12,000km after he returned it 4yrs later??? Never really understood that.

Easy.

In 2004 I was going to buy a 330i and perform some minor mods to it. Then I had the brilliant idea that I should buy an M3 because then, I wouldn't have to modify it.

$25k worth of engine and suspension and electronic mods later, I had a car that would turn awesome lap times at Laguna and Watkins Glen, but no-one would ride in it due to all the noise and horrible ride.

I had an '02 540i that was getting up there in miles and age. I wanted something sporty. Test drove a 911 Carrera and an Audi S4. Then saw my car on eBay. Went for a test drive the day after New Year 2011. Bought the car 3 days later.

It's the only car I have not yet gotten bored with after 2 years.
