Are split-folddown rear seats standard?
I have been searching and seeing conflicting information both on the forums and internet about the rear seats. Do I need to get the cold weather package to get split-fold rear seats? Is it standard? Does it depend on the model year (considering 2008/2009 mostly) at all?

Folding, split rear seats are standard on all 3 series coupes and convertables. They are an option on sedans where they are included as part of the cold weather package or as a stand-alone option.

When I ordered my E90 M3 I didn't give a second thought to the idea that rear seat would not be folding. I had a few nervous nights where I couldn't stop thinking about my car before it arrived. Then I found the seats to be folding. My speculation is that all M3 sedans in Canada come stardard with folding seats. Any Canadian owners can chime in.

I believe this to be true. I have a sedan with out Cold Weather package and I have split folding seats. I am 2nd owner so, I can't confirm if the split folding seats were ordered as a stand-alone option.

In the US E90, folding rear seats are a $500 option stand alone or part of the cold weather package for $1000. I was told my SA that it came standard on E92/3. I'm sure BMW added the costs to the MSRP on E92/3. I think it should be standard on all cars regardless if it has 2 or 4 doors.

I didn't think I had it either until a couple months ago too. Didn't think the release would be where it is in the trunk, thought it would be inside the cabin on the seats or something. VERY happy that I have them! Got two 80lb dogs, set of gold clubs, suitcase, dufflebag, two computer bags, tennis racket and come other small stuff in the car for a 400 mile trip. Surprisingly a lot of room!

I guess I didnt use the trunk much. I specifically asked my sales rep if they did before I purchased the car and he just showed me the lame pass thru. I guess I wasn't looking for them. None the less, I was very happy when I found them!
PS: I recently found out the flipper thing under there is to hold the bottom tray up too..lol.

No folding seats on my E90. That is one option box I HUGELY regret not ticking. It would be nice not to lay down a sleeping bag or blanket every time I want to carry anything large or messy that won't fit in the trunk (eg my wheels).

I don't miss not having fold down seats. I don't "haul" things in my M3. If its that big its going in my beater Explorer.

It's optional in the sedan but not in the coupe? Is it just me, or does that seem like the reverse of what you would expect?

those who don't need this feature either, swap tires only when their tread runs low, don't swap seasonally b/c they live in florida or have winter/track wheels where they do it themselves. |
