25 Year Special M3 Frozen Edition (matte black) from BMW SA (w/ power bump)
BMW South Africa is releasing 25 special edition M3's that boast a 30hp and 20nm increase over stock.
To celebrate 25 years of the BMW M3, BMW SA’s Rosslyn team is at it again: they have created a special version of the current V8 BMW M3 Coupe to celebrate the quarter-century. Only 25 will be assembled in a choice of Frozen Black or Frozen Grey. The paint finish is matte, the brake callipers red inside glossy, black 19-inch alloy rims and the upholstery black leather with red stitching. Each unit will have the M Dual Clutch Transmission as part of the standard specification and rely heavily on performance-enhancing parts from AC Schnitzer, among them the exhaust pipe, intake manifold and revised engine management system. The Frozen Edition BMW M3 Coupé will produce 330kW at 8400rpm and 420Nm at 3900rpm (the standard BMW M3 makes 309kW at 8300rpm and 400Nm at 3900rpm). Only eight cars will be available in 2010, the rest in the first quarter of 2011. The BMW M3 Frozen Edition will be priced at almost R1.2 million. ** Update: Awesome new set of photos from pro photographer Seagram Pearce. ** See all the photos on Seagram Pearce's flickr photostream: http://www.flickr.com/photos/stgstud...7605338336231/ or his official website for his work: http://www.seagrampearce.com/ Again, these photos by Mr. Seagram Pearce, make sure to check out his other work! http://www.flickr.com/photos/stgstud...7605338336231/ or http://www.seagrampearce.com/

Ummm... 443Hp and 310lbft from the current 4.0L, and done by BMW.
Either this is some joke or suddenly the 4.4L specs of the M3 GTS are the joke. |

I think this is the direct link:
http://www.wheels24.co.za/NewModels/...t-yet-20100803 "Each unit will have the M Dual Clutch Transmission as part of the standard specification and rely heavily on performance-enhancing parts from AC Schnitzer, among them the exhaust pipe, intake manifold and revised engine management system." It says that it's produced by BMW SA's Rosslyn Team. |

I think that we are still thinking that the M3 US market is great, when the M3 sales numbers here keep saying otherwise since 2008. So the best we are going to get from BMW is flat paint and a patch of leather of a different color on black. |

"The first M3 to come here was the six-cylinder E36 M3 Coupe of the early 1990’s but, to meet demand for a sport BMW 3 Series in the late 1980’s, BMW SA’s plant at Rosslyn, near Pretoria, produced two very special BMW 3 Series just for South Africa. The first was an Alpina-based BMW 333i that squeezed a 145kW, 3.2-litre straight six into the two-door BMW 3 Series sedan in 1985. Then, in the late 1980’s, the same plant created the BMW 325iS - though it was only a two-door 325i sedan with a body kit and a close-ratio gearbox that improved acceleration at the expense of top speed and fuel economy. Further changes made the car competitive in South African saloon-car racing; the tweaking terminated with the 325iS Evo II of late 1991 which had a number of aluminium body panels and a 2.7-litre engine that made 155kW and could haul the car to 100km/h kin 7.5sec."

M3
M3 Edition M3 GTS M3 Competition M3 U.S Edition M3 25 Year Special Edition and yet M3 GTS-R coming. I am sure the M3 GTS-R will have ~500 HP from its 4.4l V8, and it will weight ~1500 kg compared to 1605 kg of M3 GTS. I would like to see the engine bay of this M3 25 Year Spe......dition. There is also maybe yet an M3 Clubsport coming. Maybe all M3 will get AC Schnitzer (bu M GmbH) power bump. |

These days people will brand you as a racist for just about anything so I think a lot of folk are hyper-sensitive to their statements regarding anything could remotely be construed as to relating to a particular race.
As far as the car, I wonder if BMW SA went to AC Schnitzer and simply developed a contract to add some performance parts to their limited edition 25 yr car (to justify a price 2x the base of the normal M3 I'm sure) or if this says something more about possible packages for the 2012 MY?

If so, yes your thinking is racist in a way, but reflective of how the social structure of SA is and people's ignorance of the world other than their little neighborhood (IE People think the Republic of Georgia, is Georgia, like Atlanta Georgia). There's a large white population there that were decendents of the landowners and industrialists and believe me, they got money, they run the economy. That said, you should probably brief yourself on the history of South Africa before making a comment like this. You'll find out that there's plenty of money in South Africa. Out of all the countries in Africa it's the biggest economy, there must be a reason why the World Cup was held there, don't you think? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_africa http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...y_GDP_(nominal http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...PP)_per_capita Last edited by mdosu; 08-03-2010 at 09:49 PM.. |

I don't think he was being racist, he clearly stated so that it wouldn't be taken as racism.
I recently was on SA for the World Cup, it's a beautiful country, and like every country, it has a wide variety of races, different social status, etc.

It looks beautiful! I just saw the price though, R1 180 000 which is really steep, it's actually in supercar territory at this point. Personally, I know people will be able to afford these, especially some collectors. A current M3 E92 costs somewhere in the range of R 910 000 with options (M-Dynamic and DCT plus other options) so this is a major premium. However, I think this special edition is just like the ones that came out in the USA a few moths back. It is beautiful though, I would love to see one in person.
South Africa just did a major overhaul of their entire road network so cars just like these are especially welcome. |

Pics are usual BMW Press photoshops. I would like to know more about power bump? Doesn' the M3 Competition get the lowered spring of the M3 Edition? Maybe MY2012 M3 is going to get a Clubsport package, with the power bump of M3 25 Year....... What a fire work. The S85 stopped production, and now the last NA BMW engine is also saying bye-bye. This means no Z4 M wiht S65.
