Rod Bearing Service, Mporium BMW, Texas

Mporium BMW rod bearing service in Texas
www.mporiumbmw.com

Traditionally considered a very localized offering, our forum presence, signature expertise, and same-day service has attracted clients from all across Texas and throughout the southwest with owners as far away as Arizona, Kansas, Arkansas, and other states bringing us their car for the job.

The technical reasons behind the need to replace BMW's original rod bearings is thoroughly documented since the early 2000's. This information is easy to find. Finding a qualified shop for the job however, takes more time! As a 5-star rated facility with over 1000 bearing services performed over the years between all BMW engine variants, Mporium is a leading option. Lets look at our signature service for S65.

Bearings:
Mporium keeps heavy inventory of WPC OEM, BE V2, VAC, KING, ACL, and our own customized ACL mixed sets with WPC anti-wear treatment which we measure and match in-house. If your research leads you to a certain brand preference, we probably have them in stock.

Rod Bolts:
We stock OEM bolts, ARP 625, and BE's custom spec ARP rod bolts, specifically engineered for ideal clamping force and minimal bore distortion.

Engine mounts:
To us, this is not an optional "add-on", but mandatory unless the car has had these replaced very recently. Roughly 8 out of 10 cars we see still have their original mounts which are almost always collapsed or, sometimes completely torn apart and in two pieces. All of our rod bearing service packages include OE engine mounts. For almost all scenarios we recommend OE rubber mounts. We do however stock options from Turner, Bimmerworld, and Vibra-Technics.

Oil and Filter Service:
A required component of a rod bearing service since the oil must be drained from the sump for removal. As oils and brands are highly debated among owners and some are very specific on what brand oil their engine receives, we carry several options from Motul, Liqui-Moly, Redline, BMW (Shell), and Castrol. Of course, a new OEM filter is included. Some boutique oils like Redline add cost. We recommend followup oil/filter service in 3000 miles after this visit.

Power steering fluid service:
To facilitate subframe removal, the power steering fluid is drained and two hoses disconnected. This service includes refilling with fresh CHF-11S fluid which constitutes a basic fluid service. Optionally, a replacement filter/reservoir can be added to the job. We also stock upgraded reservoir options.

Gaskets, seals, miscellaneous:
Of course, we cannot overlook the seals that are disturbed during the service. There are two oil pickup tubes with o-rings that require renewal, and the oil pan gasket itself is replaced with a new OE part. We also replace the Servotronic wire (and bracket) which must be removed during subframe removal. The connector and bracket here are always brittle due to the nearby exhaust heat and come apart when being unclipped. We renew these parts to return to as-new condition. No zip-ties or tape. Furthermore, all hardware removed is cleaned and degreased in our ultrasonic tank to ensure cleanliness and sealing quality during reassembly.

Service Plaque:
Bearing service is a quintessential service item, commonly discussed among M3 owners and buyers alike. In order to provide a degree of proof and a visual cue that the service has been performed, we include an individualized aluminum plaque with your VIN and mileage. This plaque is engraved on our in-house laser during the day of service.

Add-ons:
Some items disturbed during the job may be recommended for replacement at additional part cost. These may include items such as the engine ground strap, transmission aero cover, or accessory serpentine belt(s). As these cars age we want to ensure that anything that would benefit from replacement "while you're in there" is identified and the customer given the option.

Aluminum Undertray:
Our Mporium one-piece aluminum undertray is offered with free installation during rod bearing service. This hugely popular flat panel replaces the 3 fragile felt panels which are often damaged or missing from the front undercarriage. Manufactured by us for this platform, it increases ground clearance, adds critical component protection, and is a permanent solution for your front undercarriage.

Oil Pan restoration:
Aluminum oil pans are prone to stripped drain plug threads if over-torqued during previous oil changes. This is a frequent concern mechanics come up against often during these jobs. We are specially equipped to handle this repair properly. Many shops will attempt to Heli-Coil the threads or at least attempt a time-sert, but results are hit and miss, resulting in leaks later on. With the oil pan off-vehicle, we use our vertical mill to install steel Time-Sert threads perfectly perpendicular to the drain hole. This is critical to ensure an easy crush washer seal during future oil services without exceeding the drain plug torque spec. Furthermore, we face the seat with an end-mil to guarantee a perfect flush surface between the insert and pan. This service adds $99. Oil pans can also be Vapor-Honed for an as-new finish if desired.

LABOR:
A shop's reputation is only as good as the tech doing the job. Our staff is highly trained and experienced on these jobs. We begin the process with complete front subframe removal to permit full visibility and unrestricted movement around the bottom of the engine. To save on labor this is one of the biggest shortcuts shops will make and the most important thing we stress to not overlook. The subframe is fully cleaned and degreased. Each part we remove is cleaned in our CUDA cleaners, and hardware is cleaned in our ultrasonic machine before reuse. Dirty areas are degreased so that the assembly is always improved over how it arrived. Attention to detail is paramount. Critical hardware is tightened to exact torque specifications and cleanliness is observed to ensure no additional debris enters the assemblies. Thread-lock is used where specified and all bolts and screws are reinstalled in their correct locations. Our process results in no change in alignment, although if the customer requests, we can perform a BMW KDS alignment on our in-house machine. Afterwards, the vehicle is road tested to ensure everything is satisfactory and the oil level measures full.

Customer service:
Of course, every visitor and vehicle is unique, and each client receives direct and personal interaction with our staff before, during, and after the job. We have our shop software to thank for our front-end efficiency. Before beginning, the client receives a digital estimate, fully itemized with totals for e-signature. From there, each job is fully documented with technician notes, photos during the job, and photo documentation of the bearings removed. Upon completion, a link is sent by text and email for payment via text2pay. The entire process is viewable from your PC or smartphone and our customer lounge is available for your convenience and comfort. We accept all credit cards, ApplePay, cash, Zelle, Paypal, etc. Every job receives our standard 2yr/24k mile warranty and some bearings carry a lifetime warranty.

Our high efficiency process results in all of this being able to be performed "same day" in most cases, ideal for out-of-town clients. We are also located near several hotels. For owners with no local resources desiring other repairs also, we have been able to occasionally accommodate special cases where additional jobs such as brakes, exhaust, or suspension work is added for same day completion (multiple techs simultaneously). For S65, this full service procedure currently starts at $2799 plus any add-ons desired.
