I think that this site is not only the best BMW forum but the best car forum out there, period. People mention 6-SpeedOnline but the non-Porsche sections there are just littered with posts/advertisements by sponsors.

At least here we can have reasonable discussions about other brands in the General Automotive sub-forum.
But you guys are being bias by acting like it's even comparable and the 'Oh the 328I lost this battle but it put up a fight' vibe.

True lack of bias will just tell the stone cold truth.

328I is a nothing compared to a Cayman S.

You are talking about a 80,000 car and a freaking 47-50K car. That's absurd it's even comparable.

The Porsche Cayman S is a brilliant car, and it is on an entirely different level than the 328i. Most critics think the Cayman's suspension/handling/damping is better than the 911's.

It's that good. No it's not as powerful as some of the 911s but it has plenty of power for its weight.

Um . . . you either quoted the wrong post or you missed the post that I included above . . . which was my first response. Specifically, see the section I put in bold.

I think it was pretty clear.

The comprison is not only about performance but takes into account additional variables such as lifestyle, daily usability if it is not a summer toy (third car), cost of ownership and perceived value. The average margin on a P car is $23K. Nobody here is denying the Cayman is a better performance car because it is designed as such but wether it makes sense to spend ~70K on a car of this type as a dd. Now if you compare C7 to Cayman the comparo gets quite interesting, doesn't it?

I'll be test driving it this coming week. Excited to see. I never debated that they were on different levels, I was more-or-less wondering what the switch would truly be like.

I completely agree the cayman is hands down the better looking car. The regular 911 is very plain and does nothing for me. Mine has the aero kit which I think is a must for this car, it turns it from a plane Jane to a supermodel.

Don't get me wrong I love the 911 especially with the aero kit. It's a timeless classic that will always be admired by enthusiasts and non enthusiasts.

I'm wondering as if it's almost they made the car longer, and the profile got stretched and that for me may have been drastic and that's where that plain look comes from.

It was just funny when I was at the dealership I got my fill of admiring the 911, but couldn't stop looking at the 981CS. In either case saying you own either one is impressive enough for me and I'd take either. In just more emotional about the Cayman S.

Thanks for your straightforward answer.

Why would you compare an entry level BMW sedan to an amazing sports car?

Never compared it, just really wondered what the difference would be and if I could use it as a DD. Not much else...

IMO you can use it as a DD during the summer pending where you live. But here is a thought, why not keep your 328 and add the Cayman S to the stable? This would make much more sense.

Eventually I dont care who you are, youre going to need a back seat.

I was thinking around the same thing. It really depends though, because I shouldn't really have two cars.

The car drove like a dream of course. I'm in love, just not sure what to do yet. I may just end up adding it, just like you said.
