Standing mile? Two mile results?
Hi everyone,
If you click the link in my sig, you'll see that I've entered a charity supercar event. Quick notes: 1. standing mile side by side drag race, 2. standing 2 mile solo run, 3. and 3 other events (auto-x, wet drift and doughnut comp'n) My question is whether anyone has hard data (vBox, etc) of what their car (ideally a s/c'd M3 with 6MT, but honestly, I'll take any frame of reference) has done in a standing mile. Or even a two mile run......gearing limited I'm going to guess? Anyways, hopefully there's some numbers out there for me to aim for. Thanks, Mike

I wish this was somewhere in US East Coast. I would love to do a 2 mile drag race

Am pretty sure biglare and PG have done the mile. 2 mile would probably be a top speed run and would like to see that

I posted in the 60-130//1/4 thread and I've been told PG has the 1 mile record @186 mph.....and yeah, top speed in the 2 mile!!

If I were you I'd try to find a 26" or taller rear tire for the 2-mile. With those 295/30-18's you're going to run out of gear about 7mph sooner than with the stock tires if you VMax it

Sorry, I forgot to mention I'll be going with either the stock 265/40 PS2 18" or 275/xx (can`t recall which sidewall I have) 18 PS2, not the Cup tire spec listed below.
And thanks for the reminder! (I'm going to hit the online calculators tonight and determine which is optimal)

Stock gearing 8300 rpm, assuming no tire growth:
25.3" (295/30-18) = 187mph 25.6" (315/30-18) = 189mph 26.1" (295/35-18 PS2) = 192mph 26.3" (stock PS2) = 194mph 26.7" (275/40-18) = 197mph

I don't think you'll hit vMax in 2-miles. It takes more like 4-5 miles to hit vMax. Also wanted to know where the 2-mile event it. Google earth shows the longest runway at Cold Lake AFB as 2.25 miles. Is the runway longer now or is the 2-mile event somewhere else? Also, I could run some simulations on your car and post them if you want. Kind of give you an idea what you can expect in the standing mile. Do you have a vBox already?

Yes, maybe I was too overexcited about vMax in 2 miles....at those speeds, that last mile goes by very very quick! The 2 mile run is on the runway http://racethebase.ca/?go=registration-html-4 Looking at it now, no wonder they require a brake fluid flush 1 month before.....Good thing I have my new brake duct kit! I'd love you to run simulations for me!!! I'm going to be running 275/40 18 PS2's and the gearing is stock, with the redline set @8,100 rpm as per AA software. I do have a vBox, still trying to find a "private" road to explore all it's aspects. Thanks!

Do you need any vBox baseline info to run a sim? Can't promise a full mile run though.

Google earth looks like the runway is 2.25 miles. I don't think they can get much more than 1.5 miles safely out of that. Whatever you do, don't try a standing mile on a public road.
Here's your simulations for the standing mile and vMax. I already knew AA uses an 8100 redline. So I ran all of the simulations with 8100 redline. I input the weather data from the same day 2011. I input the actual dyno charts into the simulator for both AA kit on 91 octane and AA kit on 93 octane. This makes it much more accurate to use the actual dyno charts. I assumed an 180 pound driver, full weight car, and 10 gallons of gas. If you want to get any more accurate, you'll have to give me a dyno chart of your car and weigh you car with you in it and half tank of gas. Here's what came out. |

That's awesome.
I'll attempt to get you an accurate weight this week if I can get to a weight scale. And no dyno, closest one is 450 miles away. I'll be running a calculated octane of ~94 coupled with the methanol injection. Not that it appears to make too much difference. Again, thanks!!!

I heard that a stock M3 can do somewhere between 150-160 mph on 1 mile, i wonder what it can do in 2 miles ?

Stock I think they would hit BMW's governed vMax. 161 mph if I recall magazine road tests.

That I can only guess. There will be 2-3 more E9x M3's at the competition, so I'll see what they run and try to see if they are re-mapped too.

A 6-speed car like mine has enough power (good aero, that huge front air intake, and perfect gearing probably help too) to reach at least 184 on a GPS with the limiter removed in stock form, if you have enough road. It takes a while to get up there, but it'll get there. I'd bet on 188-190 as the true top speed, maybe a little less for a DCT car because it's dragging that tall 7th gear at thos speeds. There are plenty of videos out there of people with otherwise stock or near-stock M3's pulling 300kph on a GPS. But with stock power you need a LOT of road to get there because you spend so much time going a mile every 20 seconds and it takes 20+ seconds to get from 175 to 184. Every road is pretty short at 180+mph...

Well, two weeks away!!!
Car is 3,800 lbs with me in it and a full tank. I might be running a different tune, but I'll hold off explaining until I know for sure. This is going to be a f*cking blast!!!!

place a camera to view your dashboard. This way you can also see the difference between dashboard and gps speed difference.

Be sure to run your vBox even for standing mile and standing 1.5 mile events. If the timing guy screws up, you have your vBox files as backup and I can show you how to get "official" standing mile and standing 1.5 mile runs from your files. It's also good in case you snap off a great 60-130 time as well. Which vBox did you get? If you have video vbox then I can show you how to hook it up to your car computer and data log while you run. |

I will definately run the vBox every trip. Thanks again for the data!! I hope I can live up to it.
