im still pissed that nobody said anything about the underside of my hood being painted and cleared all nice and shiny picture on page 4........

the part number for the new clutch pedal compression spring is 35-00-6-769-442

I now have over 2500+ miles on the new transmission and I have not had a SINGLE grind! It is completely fixed- I did not change my driving habits- i do not wait 4 minutes between shifts now.... its shifting like the car should be. I simply could not accept the fact that "this is the way this transmission shifts" If that was true, I would sell the car in a heartbeat and either go DCT or back to an e46 m3.

Like I said earlier- BMW did not hesitate at all with my problem. They actually handled it quite well. I thought i would have to fight tooth and nail. Turned out they just said REPLACE EVERYTHING! Transmissions for everybody! woohoo! (or something like that)

Which Atlanta BMW dealer did the work?

I have the 2nd grind on my 2008 E93 M3 and would like the same dealer to take a look.

Thanks

It's happened to me a few times in the last week. It sends a chill down my spine. I'm happy to sign something addressed to BMW on this issue.

This is ridiculous: DCT lag and 6MT grind. Is there a 3rd option?

I haven't experienced any grinding at all. Sometimes it's harder to put it in 2nd when I'm accelerating hard, but besides that, no grinding.

I have an 09 FWIW.

Guys, could it be because our dealerships failed to change out the 6MT tranny fluid during the 1200mi service?

its a possibility but I doubt it- the fluid that comes in the car from the factory is the exact same fluid that they would be putting back in it- It might be an issue if there was some break in fluid that would compromise fast shifting but all the fluid is the same-

I know that my fluid was not changed during my 1200 mile service and was only replaced at approx 5300 miles when I realized it- the car would still grind multiple times every time I would drive the car afterward- maybe my trans was already messed up so much that there was no going back....

I would have to say its something wrong with the trans and not the fluid of choice but nobody can really be sure.

1st to 2nd gear update:

I went to the dealer yesterday to have my car looked at a second time. The tech who looked at it, Mario "The M Guru" as the dealer calls him, said that this is NOT normal. He also told me that the E9X's have carbon fiber synchros which is new to BMW and M. The problem couldn't be replicated but because I've been there once before for the same issue, they would dump out the tranny oil and check for shreds in the pan. Either way, they would have to report the issue to BMWNA and wait for a response from them and see what they will do.

My recommendation is this; take your car in and complain about it everytime you go. The dealer is under obligation to dump the tranny oil out (even if they can't replicate it) and report their findings to BMWNA. Sooner or later, if BMWNA gets enough complaints they will have to issue a recall.

Either way, it's worth a try and a free tranny oil change to boot.

Happens to me about 25% of the time after warmup after 7k.

Please add my name to the list. I'm going to talk to my dealship about this problem as well. I've printed this thread as evidence that this is an issue, not something I've made up. We'll see what they say.

Does anyone with a SSK have this grinding problem? I'm curious to see how a short shift kit would affect the car..if at all.

For the record, I've got the UUC SSK with no grinding and I never had a grinding problem.

....But your's is an '09, right? '09 M3's don't have the grinding issue as much as the '08 M3's.....From what I've researched.

Btw, I'll most likely be getting the UUC ssk also.

Oh, I didn't realize the grinding was mainly an '08 problem. I wonder if that means something.

You'll love the UUC, unfortunately, it won't fix the grind I suspect.

I ordered a '09 m3 a couple of weeks ago. I've been told that it's much rare to experience the grind issue on this 2nd yr. model. I'll just keep my fingers crossed and hope I don't run into the problem.

Hah, just order one without it...

I think it's pretty rare. We've got a sizeable list, but given the size of the forum that's really pretty small numbers. The odds are with you.

Besides the UUC, I highly recommend the Dinan Stage I spring set. It's not just springs, but different spring hats and bump stops specific to the new springs. You get a small drop, but the handling improves nicely without losing suspension travel and still retaining a nice street ride quality.

I have the issue, and I had it with my 08 M3 as well.

Yes, but you certainly pay the price for those!
