Power Steering Fluid Boiling Over???
Shazam. The GT4 power steering cooler is installed. no more of this john mcenroe sweat band or old sock routine. The extra 2 passes have way more fins which equals way more surface area for cooling, and they are not hidden behind the bumper. They will get way more airflow. Bitch to install, but home free now.

I believe someone else installed this (wwj15 or something) and posted some results. Forget how well it worked. I know he was having lots of power steering issues before installing it.

$815 plus $20 freight from Global Imports in Atlanta. Jonathan Allen is the rep for the GT4 stuff. this was 15% below what he quoted because i can get it that cheap in Europe even with VAT. i travel there frequently, so it is easy. he met the price.

Right now, I just evacuate the reservoir and refill after each track event. If I don't, the p/s fluid gets foamy.

Have you taken it to the track? No more spilled fluid outside the reservoir?

Just put it in this weekend. Will track it in a few weeks. wwjd15 had a myriad of other problems including failed pumps. He also attempted mounting the OEM one on an angle versus level.

IIRC, Turner has a radiator which integrates the p/s cooler into the core and I'm sure it works very well. But as I have learned a thicker radiator can make servicing anything on the front of the engine a total PIA. I put a Zionsville Radiator on my E46. Wanna change a tensioner pulley? Need to remove an alternator bolt? Radiator needs to come out. So I really hope that this OE solution will be good enough. Looking forward to see how it goes and we all surely appreciate you being the guinea pig...a status reserved only for the couragous and brave!

i can get CHF-11S all day long at the NAPA by my plant. if you need some on a trip down, just let me know. i have to wonder why it is required and is green yet the OEM fluid that ran out of the hoses is not.

My E90 has sprung leaks in the rack and PS pump, DSG, RMS, and Valve gaskets. Just got the news today from the dealer...and factory warranty expired in dec, so extended will pick it up (whew, a nice little bill avoided). PS system is definitely a weak link....

How did your steering feel otherwise? I agree. I auto-x'd my E90 once. The steering went dead after 4 runs and the fluid was foamy. Then there was a groaning noise which went away after it cooled down. I've also drifted my e90 and noticed the steering starting to get heavier.

Yeah, then I drove someone else E90 M3, same year except it has the comp package. I turned into the first corner and the steering was so sharp that I almost turned inside of the apex. Since then I've been wondering why my E90 steers so damned heavy...might have my answer.
Honestly, I love the way my E90 steers. It has an extra weight and effort to it that makes it so much better to drive. So maybe an E9X M3 with a broken p/s system is better!

I know the E46 M3 ZCP had a different steering rack but I can't find any positive confirmation that the E9X ZCP had a different steering rack. Looking in RealOEM, I can only find one steering rack listed for the E92, whereas I see a non-ZCP and ZCP steering rack listed for the E46.
What is the source of your information? Not necessarily challenging you, its that I have never heard this difference before. |

I don't think so. There's only one part # of RealOEM. The E46 ZCP has a different steering rack than the non-ZCPs. The E9X M3 comp pkg is just springs, electronics, and wheels.
