Identity Thief

today i received an order confirmation from an online retailer. i immediately called and cancelled the order because i did not place it. the retailer told me that they'll cancel and stop shipping. my question is can i call the police and give them the name and address where the items were going to shipped? mind you, i live in NYC/NJ area.

this is his/her name and address:

LIEM THAI
12619 CANYON ECHO DR
HOUSTON, TX 77065

I don't see why not? But don't get your hopes up, its so small potatoes that they probably won't do anything. Which is pretty sad and frustrating, because it only encourages these scumbags.

However, the forum's friendly Mexican (Litos) lives probably nearby and might be able to confirm whether this is a "valid address".

Also keep in mind, the "real" thief may have just used that home address because it's abandoned, or unoccupied due to foreclosure, etc.

This. I run an ecommerce business and we get a lot of these. Rarely is it the actual thieves address. They have all kinds of scams. Sometimes it empty houses, sometimes they have an inside guy at UPS, sometimes they will stalk the house and wait for the package to arrive etc.

But damn, that house is huge. Probably cost 200k in Houston for a house like that. It would cost 1 million here in California.

yeah, that would be stupid of him/her to steal someones identity and have it shipped to their house. Maybe your Gf bought something with your CC and sent it to her BF/GF,??

That house in your average South Orange County suburb (i.e - not exclusive coastal, or gated communities) would be around $900,000 to $1.2m just based on the size of the lot, square footage, that Zillow is reporting. Put that house within 3-5 miles of any beach and double that price easily.

You should be able to make a claim with the credit card company once you verify its things you didn't purchase.

You didn't cancel the card before you cancelled the order?
