Nav screen cuts out

Happy new year gentlemen... Quick question i was driving home tonight and had my music going and all of sudden the Nav screen just went black. Then when it came back on about 20 sec later the BMW logo appeared just like when you turn on the car and gave me the normal disclosure message that you have to accept. Then 10 sec later it did the same thing and turned back on with the logo and then did not do it again. Any of you experienced this before, should I take it to the dealer. Any feedback would be great

Well it re-booted and came back up. Get it in for a SW update.

The only time I had this sort of thing was in my E46 M3's Mk4 DVD Nav unit, but then I was running a hacked OS that had major modifications, an Intravee II and I just put up with it restarting from time to time.

Yes, take it to a dealer and get it checked out.

I had the same problem in my 330i (E90) in 2006. I tolerated the repeated iDrive rebooting for a while, but eventually took the car to a dealer.

They attempted to update the software, but the updates failed in all their repeated attempts. They came to the conclusion that the CCC module was faulty, and replaced it. After that, the software update was successful.

By early 2010, I had accumulated more than 177 000 kilometres in that car, without any iDrive issues.

Also, check out the discussion in the thread below for some ideas/advice. It's the same problem but in a 6 series:
