This may be a little off topic, I bought Halo 2 and 3, and the story seems to end without much resolution with a mysterious planet.

Is there any books or other material that explains how the story ends in Halo?

You most definitely need to play Halo: Combat Evolved (the first one) to fully understand it. Reach is a prequel to the Halo trilogy and ends exactly where the first one begins.

if your taking about the halo 3 legendary ending, yeah, not much is known about it, i think they wanted to leave it open?

bungie won't be making anymore halo games but microsoft probably will so they might explain it one day.

reach takes place before all the other halo games

never happened to me, but I remember once i played halo 3 on legendary and sometimes i would just run past difficult parts and then the dialog would screw up (people talking over each other in game, not in cutscenes)

but the frame rate in reach dropped for me sometimes, kind of disappointing with such a high grade game

Finished the campaign. Shit was awesome. Matchmaking is solid. I'm actually loving firefight and forgeworld. Seriously, mess around with the options in firefight. So funny.

Fucking love firefight, my buddy and I lasted 65 minutes at our best try on Normal, and around 35 minutes on heroic.

Have you tried regular multiplayer mode? Juggernaut game mode is funny as fuck. Especially when you change the juggernaut options and give him 300% speed with low gravity, runs faster than a fucking ghost (a good way to balance it is to take his health down to about 75% and give him fast regen shields).

P.S. Rocketfight + Jetpacks = win

Thanks man. Read thru the DIY guide but holy shit, too expensive and too hard. The reward for doing it would be epic, but I am too lazy to do all that shyte. Hopefully one day there will be an easy, plug-n-play solution.
