Lack of throttle response

It's five years since I picked up my car as new to the day ... yes, five years. Where has the time flown?

Lately I've been experiencing lack of response when I put my foot down especially when I am in high gear (i.e. 4 etc.). The other night I took a friend of mine for a drive, and I floored it but I couldn't really feel the power. I don't know whether I am now immune to the power of this car given that I've had it for such a long time, or is it me, or is there something wrong.

Currently I drive my wife's F25 X3 30d as a daily driver, and drive the ///3 on the weekends. I don't know whether the smooth response of the F25 and the mountain of torque I am use to is playing with my head.

I've still got the original spark plugs in the ///3, and given I've just hit 35,000 km, don't know whether it's a contributing factor.

Has anyone experience this, and if you have please share with me what you done to overcome this. Don't tell me I need to see a shrink please ....

Sounds like you either had a very hefty friend in the car with you, or you need to update your routine maintenance. If your maintenance is up-to-date, then you might just be used to the power...it happens.

Luckily we have Naturally Aspirated tuning available for you, if you'd like to rejuvenate your driving experience It adds power and torque, but you really feel the difference with the hair-trigger like throttle response we give.

So maintenance vs. big friend vs. tuning. All these things are fixable. No shrink needed

What do you mean by routine maintenance? I do my own oil change every 12 months. The only things probably that haven't been done is the air filter, which I might do this weekend. I don't know whether the computer needs hooking upto the dealer ISTA-P to have it reset with new service dates. It hasn't been to the dealer for a service since I had the brake oil change in 2011.

The only thing that has happened within the last 6-8 months is that the CCC has been replaced with CIC and that added a service - 12 monthly vehicle check (emission). I don't know whether this is having an effect on the performance.

I can modify the throttle response in both sport and normal to your liking if you like it more aggressive.

Dealers often do not update the cars, so I would suggest checking to see what ISTA/P version you have. This will require them plugging in to check (it's not super quick).

I can also update and tune the car remotely if you are interested in that.

Hi Mike
Thank you for the offer. I did send you a PM a while ago and never received a reply. Probably you have been overwhelmed with requests and email given your popularity. I will PM you again to discuss options. Thank you once again.

Could it be computer adaptations. I know when I drive conservatively the car learns this behavior and it feels less snappy. When the car is driven harder it goes away. I'm sure one of the tuners can confirm this or not.

Good point, when my daughter drives my car it feels like it has been gelded for the first little bit before it gets out of granny mode.

I think you will be surprised how much difference a fresh air filter will make. While you are at it pick up a high flow filter for a little extra bump in sound and HP.
