Seriously I think a big issue is space. Where the hell do you put a Turbo without making a big heavy looking thing that doesn't handle well.

There are many aftermarket tuners that put turbos on Hayabusas but this is a big sport bike that has big fairings where this is possible.

On small light superbikes I think it's more of a space thing plus the engines are so powerful already it just seems unnecessary.

I am not familiar with snowmobiles and jetskis but both have lots of space to add more hardware unlike a proper superbike.

i mean, a Raider already has a 113ci engine making 155 crank torque.

it will trypically make @ 110-115wtq with intake, programmer and exhaust.

imagine putting a freaking supercharger on it !?!? 200ftlbs to the wheel

This sounds about right. Litre bikes are pretty powerful as they are without turbos, so adding turbos probably doesn't cross engineers' minds. They most likely focus their energy towards shedding weight to keep litre bikes light and agile, so adding turbos might work as a step backwards in that aspect.

adding turbos to sportbikes is for people who have drag bikes.

i doubt you could get the linear and smooth power needed to fly through the twisties with a turbo'd application.

nice bikes on here. am jealous of people who ride because I never got to after getting a motorcycle license 12 years ago. would have like to ride Suzuki GSXR. now I'm too scared to ride.

It is never too late to start from the beginning! even though you haven't ridden in 12 years, didn't mean you can't start over with new knowledge, no bad habits, and most of all, a new passion!

MSF course is a great way to get started in a safe and controlled environment amongst peers

I agree, MSF course is a great starting point. Try it and see if you still like riding again.

Thanks for the tip guys. I took a weekend course in order to get the license way back when. I guess MSF are courses for people already have the license to ride. But I think those days are behind me when I didn't have that 'fear'. Around my area, I don't know how bikers do it. I don't feel safe driving around in my car let alone a motorcycle. Just enjoying the view from my desk is enough for me. Be safe out there.

you'll never be scared on a cruiser

a real nice starter bike would be a Yamaha Stryker, Honda Fury or a Kawasake Vulcan...

It's not for everyone.

As much as I love riding and would want anyone to do it, when someone has a real fear like that it can become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

So my advice would be to go with your gut feeling. If you really have that burning desire to ride, you'll overcome the fear. However, if the fear and uncertainty are overwhelming the potential enjoyment of motorcycling, then it's best to go with your gut.

I learned this lesson the hard way when I began riding. Sometimes I'd go out and would just "have a bad feeling". If I didn't turn around and go home, most of those times I usually ended up crashing.

So if your gut tells you that it's too dangerous and the risks aren't worth it, as much as I don't agree and would love to convince you otherwise, my only advice would be to truly think about it and listen to your gut if that's what it's telling you.

BTW - MSF course is for anyone who wants to learn how to ride, they do classroom + parking lot time on their provided bikes. The whole point is to get you enough comfort level to start riding on the street. The Advanced MSF course is for slightly more experienced riders on their own bike with at least 3000 miles under their belt (at least that's what it was when I took it).

Great advice, very informative. Didn't expect to learn so much from a BMW forum, but there's lots of good info on life experiences(motorcyles to divorces). I'm enjoying the pictures. Maybe someday, I will overcome.

I loved, loved, loved my 848. It was a great street bike and a balanced track/race bike once converted. The S1000RR is just too tempting a bike though, and I want to move up to the liter bike race class.

S1000RR is pretty badass. I actually want a middleweight; I used to race an SV650 back in the day and it was tons of fun. But I can understand the desire to go to a literbike.

Was the 848 expensive to run?
How often did you track it?
Any issues with it, or pretty much just get out and ride?

It wasn't very expensive to run because it was/is a fairly easy bike to wrench on and most parts of the bike are easily accessible because of the way the bike is built. I had a hook-up on tires from a guy I tracked/raced with, so SC2/SC3 tires were easy to come by. Dan Kyle helped with the suspension stuff, so I was fortunate to have him 4 or 5 hours away to assist with any issues. More or less I could just jump on the 848 and go. The radiator blew, but Ducati covered that because of a service bulletin.

That bike saw the track at least twice a month, and of the 10k-ish miles that were on the bike when I sold it, at least a good 6-7k were track miles.
