My experience installing Umnitza V4 Orion

There are already a couple DIY threads floating around here showing how to install the Umnitza halos so I'm not going to go into detail on that, but I noticed that Wasteland's install and cbozz's install you could see the wires from the outer halo.

Here's one of cbozz's pics:

And here's one of Wasteland's pics:

I wanted to hide the wires better, so I folded the wire back, glued it to the back side of the halo, and painted it silver so it wouldn't be noticeable in the reflection on the shroud. The wire now exits at the bottom where it cannot be seen. I did need extend that particular wire about 6".

So now the end of the halo hovers there and no wire can be seen.

And of course, the obligatory photos of the end result in full sun.

Looks good, getting ready to start this project myself and do the full blackout.

Great idea

I've seen some of Luis' work (of OSS) and he would cut a hole into the shroud. I did mine myself too but the wire doesn't bother me. I painted it silver though.

That's very interesting. I wish I had known he was doing that - I might have tried that. I had the thought - but then chickened out. I didn't know if I would potentially cause a light leak out of the hole.
