akrapovic slip on exhaust, Is it worth it?

Question for those who have it: Is it worth it?
I'm shopping for exhaust but not a full system and Akrapovic is on the top of my list.
if any one in Philadelphia area has it I would love to hear it....

If you're looking for power, no. You don't see much gains with slip on only, you need the full system. If you're looking for sound, not really, sounds almost exactly like stock, and even the full system sounds fairly close to stock.

Build quality is unmatched, it's light as a feather, it looks freaking gorgeous, and the power gains of the full system are just plain ol' fantastic. If these aren't your goals, I'd at least give some consideration to other options.

Just the conclusion I've personally come to, as 2 of my friends have the full system, and 1 has the slip-on.

The guys at Renn-spec installed my slip on several weeks ago. I love it. Sound is just right for me: not too loud, but aggressive. Ever since I got it, I haven't turned on the radio just so I can hear it.

That being said, I'm already thinking about upgrading to the full system.

I really appreciate it. I was looking for sound but if it is near stock then it will be a waste for me. I've been told a full system will void the warranty! Is this true?

I dislike having to give anyone a vague answer, but the only true answer is this: "It depends on your dealership/service advisor."

Technically, no, your dealer cannot void your warranty solely based on the fact that you possess a modified vehicle. But depending on your dealer or SA, they most certainly can try. Put it this way. If you have exhaust and your suspension blows, you'll probably be ok. If you have exhaust and your motor goes bad, depending on your dealer, they may or may not try to void your motor warranty, and if they do, the burden of proof comes down to you.

As an practical example, my friend went to a dealership with 335i that was, with the exception of VMR wheels, 100% stock. The dealer tried to void his suspension warranty.

That being said, the most important thing is to have a good relationship with your SA, and constantly give them 5 stars on their evaluation (This is assuming they DID deserve it.). Nothing they like more than getting paid for doing their job right.

I totally agree with what ^ he said. the key is really to have a good relationship with the SA.

as for Exhaust solutions, we have sold a few Akrapovic Slip-on's and many of the customers were weary on the sound not being loud enough, but most of them actually end up loving the "milder" tone. The akrapovic is such a great daily system. No worries with drone or waking up your neighbor.

very true on power gains, wouldn't really expect too much from just the rear muffler section.

One question I have for the Akrapovic full system is giving the hoops you need to jump to solve the secondary oxygen sensor issue why they just dont install the sensor socket AFTER the cat converter? does anyone knows?

I really like my slip on. It's a bit louder and deeper than OEM. There is no drone. It also has the advantage of looking great (also gets rid of the ugly OEM muffler that you could see from the rear) and is lighter. I wasn't getting it for HP since I don't want to deal with the state emissions inspection every year. My priorities were for sound without being obnoxiously loud and looks so I am happy.

im in the same debacle as you are. constantly in the search for the perfect exhaust. my goals were to find an exhaust that looks better, weighs less, sounds good (no drone, not too loud, but still aggressive), and no CEL lights.

ive been thinking about getting the akrapovic slip on and challenge x pipe. i have yet to hear it in person, so i am a little hesitant. i hear challenge is also releasing a new rear section in a few months, so im waiting for that.

maybe if the exhaust note of the slip on isn't aggressive enough, consider getting the challenge xpipe. it shouldnt trigger any lights, it'll definitely add power, and be more aggressive sounding.

All depends on your view of the price. IMHO no afermarket Ti exhausts are "worth it" since they are so pricey. Used however at about 1/2 price is a whole different story, at least it was for me.

Have had the slip-on for several months and many thousands of miles... I have no complaints at all and love the sound.. there is nothing better on cold start-up sitting in garage.. Not TOO loud under normal driving, but every chance I get I will allow a good, driving friend to do some runs with me standing out to side of the road just so I can hear the beautiful music.. sounds great running thru tunnels, also....Get it...

If you don't get the full exhaust, which if I am not wrong is not street legal, than I would say no. Maybe wait till september/october for BMW M Performance exhaust, it should be cheeper, sound better, be legal and keep waranty. I think the best choice if not Akrapovic or M3 GTS exhaust. If not many get Eisenmann.
