Garage List
Tuesday, at the Pocono Raceway AMG event, I did 0 - 60 mph in a CLK63 Black Edition in 4.8 sec. I was not allowed to disconnect any electronic aide nor to do a torque launch.

Last week's Autobild had an article about the new CSL (including photos of the red test car we know) which mentioned that the last CSL (E46) did weigh only 1425kg! They didn't state anything for the new one, I'm sorry...

Best regards, south

Here is Sportautos final verdict on these two:

Verdict:
"The BMW M3 wins that competition due to driving dynamics and the more powerful and much heavier CLK 63 AMG not taking adavantge over the M3 which also costs less than a half of the CLK 63 AMG, the M3 is a real bargain for the driver who wanst to get the best performance for the buck. The CLK 63 AMG comes close to the M3, even as it is much more exclusive, the price is much too high."

Just me, does the article say anything about the gearbox in the BS? Evo wasn't overly happy about the gearchanges.

Cheers

I would not go around touting the M3 as "better" than the BS. What I like it tests that rank cars price independent and price dependent. Of course depending on how you weight each category you can make either car the winner in the price dependent category. I still appreciate that sytle and intent in a test.

Without consideration of the price-performance-ratio the M3 still wins by 2 points. Also interesting is the subjective category of "driving fun": both get 9 out of 10 points.

So...what else we need to consider this new M3 good enought?
the numbers from Hochkenheim and Ring seem to be not bad against:
RS4
R8
MB Black Series
all these cars used Cup Tires.
Then against
M5
M6
and so on...

If the new M3 didn't use the Cup on the Ring, so, the times will be good enought also against the Porsche 997S.

So who will think that the new C63 will be faster than that monster of the Black Series? Could be possible?if so the MB technician failed with the B.Series?is it possible?

the last test next year will be the new RS5. Untill that moment it seems that the new M3 win the competition with the cars just around the market....

Here is the complete test. Maybe our german members have something intresting to add from the article?
Perhaps something about the tires?

If the CLK63 BS is the lightweight and track version of the regular CLK63, and supposedly with an engine lighter than the M3, why is it so much heavier than a regular M3?

I'm really suspicious of its claimed engine weight

Some facts about that test...

1.) All M3 E92 until now, the first customer cars and also the BMW-dealer-cars have Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tyres (also 19 inch option)

2.) My BMW-dealer doesnt have any information if there is ever a possibility to order the Michelin-CUP in future.

3.)The M3 from Sport Auto test had not only that semis, they also changed the pads, so they used again race-pads like already in spain, and the journalist critisized the noise which the race-pads are making all the time.(by the way, this is writen on that page at the end of the Sport Auto test, which is missing at the last post)

So for me the thing is very clear:

There is one M3 from the Auto-Motor-Sport-test which performed Hockenheim in 1:16,1.
That one you can buy or order at the dealer now.

There is another M3 from Sport Auto-test which had a 1:14,3 in Hockenheim.
This is one you canīt buy, but of course you change tyres and pads on your own.

If i want to compare the Hockenheim-time against other cars, there is no sense for me to take the test-time from a tuned car which i cant get from the dealer.

Greeting Robert

^ Actually the pads are available from the dealer apparently

So really you are just talking about tires...

Two interesting points:

1. Sportauto indicates that it was hard for them to get a test car for this comparison against the M3, since most competitors (Audi, MB) seem to know about the "driving dynamics" of the M3. "Nobody really wants to face the new M3 in a test."

2. BMW says the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup+ is the highest grade sport tire Michelin offers (think they mean comparable with P Zero), not a slick like the CUP tire for the CSL was (which was comparable with the Zero Corsa). Sportauto somewhat approves that by saying that this CUP+ has a quite deep tread pattern for water drain.

All cars delievered so far are dealer cars. Some are used as dealer cars, some are sold to customers. Real customer cars aren't delivered yet.
