In the spring yes, but I wanted to fit tyres now cause I wanted to see what they will be like in our Blighty weather.
I have spoken at length with Michelin about the pros and cons. The tread depth is 4mm and then with the two types of tread patten, will make for some interesting handling in damp conditions. Michelin did say that these tyres are significantly better than those that were made for E46 csl - especially in the wet and it says that in their blurb too - which is why they are being offered as a tyre for the new M3. BUT of course one will have to take it steady in the wet - which you do on the road anyway. They did also confirm that with these tyres on the M3 lapped the ring 10 seconds faster than the standard fitment. There are not many of these tyres available in UK so I going for it. I'll take some photos of the tyres before they get fitted and post them. |

I owned an EVO 8 a while back and it was fitted with some Yokohama Advans from new (which you could not replace once they wore out!!), and these were virtually slick tyres. In the wet they were very good. My point is that I hope the michelins will be even better - the tread pattern is very interesting, allowing for water dispersal on the inside and then super dry grip on the outside. If though they prove too dangerous, then i'll be swapping back to the originals until the spring track days! |

Aquaplaning would be my only real concern, especially at corners. Tread carefully mate as I would hate for something to go a miss.

Got the tyres fitted today and attach pics of rear pilot sport that came off and then new rear and front.
Today has been dry and cold (max 5.5 deg C). I have done 65 miles. My initial impressions: 1) Less noise (have driven on A, B and motorway) 2) The car "feels" stuck to the road 3) turn in from the front is precise and track well, whereas the sports sometimes pushed a bit 4) the rear feels like they are "digging" in when coming out of corners 5) I went round my favourite roundabout and floored it in second with all safety gizmos on and the intervention was less than with sports, telling me even with the low temp there is more grip Clearly, the big test comes when it is wet and I will update on that when the opportunity arises (tomorrow according to forecast). When the tyres were fitted I had a good look at them. The fronts seem to have wider tread pattern then sports, which gives me faith in wet ability. They felt really sticky too. On the car they look the absolute nuts. So, I very happy considering the cold conditions. Goodness only knows what they will be like when it gets warmer!? |

Wonder how many kms you'll get out of those? Got to be a very expensive tire for normal use.

Good post.
I wonder the same as Greg. Do you have pics of the tires on the car?

I have been reading of this and all the sources I have read said that when "tracking" it would be best with negative camber. But since I have never done this I have no idea of how easy it is to change the camber to negative and then back to neutral. Maybe someone else on this board can fill us in better.

Thanks for the photos 1198r.
Do you by any chance have a pic of your old front tyres? Im interested in comparing wear on the outside of the fronts... |
