where would you travel during European Delivery?

Small thread for people who are planning to ED, who have done ED for their vehicles, and for anyone who loves to travel!

If you were picking up your BMW at Welt, and planning to travel around, where would you go? (Say the Travel period is 5 days to 2 weeks)

Definitely Italy and Switzerland. I mean, you buy an awesome handling vehicle; why NOT drive it in the Alps?

The autobahn has some allure because of the speed, but once you've done it then you need something to REALLY get the adrenaline pumping

I plan to do some time in Germany, Italy, Switzerland and finish up with a weekend in Paris.

I said "Stay in Germany" only because that is what I chose to do with my M3. That decision was due to my decision to adhere strictly to the break-in restrictions, I wanted the break-in service back in the states, and I wanted to limit autobahn usage.

The trip was great, and there are plenty of great roads in Germany.

All of that said, when I do it again with a non-M car I plan on covering more distance and visiting more countries next time.

One Word: Nurburging.

Make sure to put enough miles on before you get there so that your motor is broken in and serviced. The driving in the Black Forest and even in the Eifel region of Germany (near the 'Ring) is very good; not "Alps" good, but very good nonetheless, and most of the country roads are pretty empty in the Eifel, too.

Driving through the Alps was fun but I probably wouldn't do Italy again myself. If I did, I'd probably stay out of the bigger cities. Driving my first brand new car, an M3, to Venice and Varenna on Lake Como was often uncomfortable. The roads in Germany were much more "big car" friendly. I'd go north next time and explore Germany, Belgium and The Netherlands. To be fair, I have no idea what the roads are like in Belgium and The Netherlands.

Unfortunately I'll be lucky to get my car before 14 weeks after drop off so I'd be hard pressed to do it again.

I read a thread about 3 years ago, a man decided to do a ED. He drove down to Lake COMO; breath taking sceneries.
Has anyone visited Austria?

I was stationed in Europe for 3 1/2 years. IMO Europe is like Las Vegas, it gets OLD quick if you stay too long. I can only take it in doses. For all you ED guys, check out Lignano, Italy. Go during the summertime, awesome beach town!!!
