Wait what? I thought Porsche was always kind of average or maybe even below average when it comes to reliability. What do the JD powers charts say?

It is a great video and the guy seems to have a LOT of patience.

I have owned 3 brand new 911's: 997.1, 997.2 and the 991.1 --- the 997.2 was the best car I have ever had - it was a brand new 997 4S 'LCI' (hence the .2) and i sold it for a 991.1 - with the 991 i had very annoying, persistent rattle that caused the car to be at the dealership 6x and ultimately still didn't fix it...

I wound up selling the car due to my annoyance and bought a Maserati.. love that car btw (albeit its a bit heavy)....

Now my F10 M5 pre-LCI is my favorite!! although I recently also (dont ask why) bought a new 2014 VW GTI and that is a REALLY cool little sports car...

Couldn't agree more. Love my 997.2. Not getting a 991.

BMW bought the car back and I was extremely satisfied with how they handled the situation. My next F30 M Sport 335i was built like a tank.

Stuff happens.

Freak incident. Glad they took care of him in the end. I would gladly buy a 991 today.

I am in a BMW now because my Porsche was a ticking time bomb due to the IMS failures:
http://www.autoweek.com/article/2013...news/130919830

And again.. it took a class action lawsuit to get them to even publicly acknowledge the problem, much less fix it. http://www.imsporschesettlement.com

This was a known problem for 2001-2005 911's and Boxsters. I was also sick of the $350 oil changes.

That said, I would trade my F30 335i in on a new Cayman S in a heartbeat if I could afford it. Beautiful cars.

I still want a 911 one day, but that's messed up what PCNA put Nick through. Good for him for sticking up for himself.

I've been following this thread on 6speedonline, the owner of this car has been so patient and really giving Porsche NA every chance to get this right. He now has a hearing on a buyback at the end of this month.

One has to hope it doesn't sink the resale value of early 991s. I love my E92 M3, both my 2011 and 2013 have been absolutely flawless as was my 07 997S. That being said if finances allow one day I hope to be back in one and would have no issues getting another PCar.

I'm also active on the Porsche forums and followed his story. Felt very bad for the guy and I am glad it was resolved. His car reviews are good. I admired the fact that his 991 was his only car and he used it for everything.

As one of his videos states, this was his dream car, he saved for 5 years to buy it, it was his first Porsche. First timers often become repeat customers, you should treat them nicely or they won't come back.

That must be one seriously expensive toaster if it's worth the effort of a YouTube video in an effort to get a refund. I'd generally cut my losses on something like that and call it a day.

If I had to scrape my pennies together to buy a luxury vehicle for five years, is buying a car like that the right option? I bet the mental breakdown of something going wrong with the vehicle for people like that is multiplied by infinity.

Are you suggesting that people should not save up for their dream cars?

Not quite. I believe the chap in question purchased a 911 S, which, for the sake of argument, will have cost him $100K. That means he had to save up $20K a year to purchase the vehicle. That's a long time to save, and a lot of money to spend on a car. Which also means that a normal person would be extra sensitive towards the car being perfect, it meeting your expectations, and of course the absolute mental breakdown when it's indeed a lemon after you just saved for 5 years and spent $100K on the car.

See where I'm going?

Wait wait wait... so valves dropping into the cylinder on the Corvette engines, and then GM denying warranty claiming abuse, yet really it's due to tolerance issues, what do you have to say about that?

Or better yet, GM ignition recall? Not exactly a issue is it?

I'm not saying one is right or wrong, crap happens all the time to every manufacturer in every continent. So no I'm not overlooking the GT3 issues, but don't throw rocks at a glass house either.

And on the other side of the spectrum...
Look, I love Porsche as the next person, but these are not simple machines like they used to be in the 60s anymore. As someone mentioned, coolant hose for Mezger engines, IMS issue on god knows how many cars, and center locks. Behold:

So let's not get carried away here.
