Looks like the Genesis Coupe uses a 135/80 18 temp spare, which is a 26.5" OD. Not as good as the 145/80, but it may be cheaper than sourcing through an Infiniti dealer.

According to the local Infiniti dealer, the T145/70 18 tire is a Bridgestone. The dealer quoted me $315 for just the tire, which is quite expensive (the 125/70 18 Continental that I bought was about $130, shipped).

Local Firestone dealer says $275.

Thanks. Very helpful information I do a lot of "long mileage" traveling and don't like the idea of not having a spare. I have 19's (came with new car)now but plan to replace at the end of the summer with 18's. Good to know this spare tire solution can work with either.

That is still a heck of a lot for a temporary spare tire. The Maxxis 135/70 was $95 shipped. For the money, I think that is the best alternative so far.

Although not as good of a solution due to size/storage constraints, let's say you use one of your wheels from a separate winter set-up as your spare (as some have suggested) and you have a staggered set. I take it that you should use one of your fronts as it will fit on any of the 4 corners, correct?

Correct, to avoid rubbing issues at lock in the front.

Is there a 19" space saver wheel that will fit the M3?

Are you wanting to accomodate a BBK? I do not know of any 19" applications, not to say there might not.

I can't source an 18" tyre in the UK so far...but I can find a 19" SS tyre but need a wheel to go with it.

Lacking other sources, best would be to use a couple modular alloy pieces and center to do a custom rim. Pretty expensive for a spare, though. You didn't answer my question on why you want a 19.

Because 18" SS tyres in the correct size have proved impossible to source in the UK so far. The next best thing is to go to 19".

There was another thread running on this, but I thought I'd summarize here to make the info easy to find. Thanks to Tom Tarzian for a lot of the work on this. The goal was to come up with a compactg spare solution that would clear the stock brakes w/o a spacer and come as close as possible to the stock tire OD.

To clear the front brake requires an 18" wheel, or perhaps a heck of a spacer on a 17. The X6 has a 5" wide wheel that seemed to fit the bill. Only thing is its hub is slightly larger (74.1 vs. 72.6 mm), so a centering ring is the right way to go.

Finding a suitable tire was a challenge, because manufacturers don't seen to list info on compact spares, and most tire dealers are unclued. I eventually found a 135/70-18 as used on the Cadillac CTS, and was able to track down the manufacturer (Maxxis) and a local dealer (Les Schwab). I took about two weeks to order in.

I test fit the setup today, and it clears the front brake caliper by about 1/4", and seems just fine. The OD of the tire is just about 0.3" smaller than the sotck fronts (a little more in the rear, of course), but seems well within tolerance, IMO. Tom had used a 125/70, but I thought that a little small.

Weight complete is 37 lbs. (47 bs. for OEM 19F). The stock lug bolts work fine.

So, here's what you need:

- BMW 36-11-6-768-861 black steel wheel; $155 list
- BMW 36-12-1-116-326 rubber valve stem, $5.35 list
- Centering ring, 74.1-72.6 mm; 1010 tire (mis-labeled 74.1-72.56 http://www.1010tires.com/hubrings.as...FU0wpAodcQqcmw); $30 shipped for set of 4 (you can sell extras)
- Maxxis T135/70R18 104M M9500N (#TP10655100), $85 + $10 shipping + $12.50 mount & balance

All-in-all, not inexpensive, but a nice bit of security to have in the trunk for trips, and about half the size of a full-size spare.

Thanks for the kind words and this thread Greg. Think I'll upgrade the 125/70.

Godspeed,
Tom

Tried that a few days ago, they gave me another number to call who didn't want to help.
I am anyway concerned that the 135 section tyre is too "thin" for the 5j X6 wheel as it is outside its approved maximum width range .
A 125/70 tyre is simply far too "thin" for the X6 wheel and should absolutely not be recommended as even relatively low lateral loads may pull the bead away from the tyre rim and cause rapid deflation.
A 145/70 tyre is the smallest permitted tyre size that can be stretched onto a 5J X6 wheel...so it should be either that or find a thinner compatible wheel to take the 135/70 or 125/70 space saver tyre.

Edit: Looks like even the 145/70 is not really wide enough for a 5j rim as it is normally limited to a 4.5j rim.

Not sure where you got your fitment specs, but the 135 flushes out with the rim exactly when mounted. It does not appear "stretched" at all. Looks like a good fit to me, though the 145 would be slightly better.

Data is from the Continental Technical data handbook 2008.
You can view and download it here:
http://www.scribd.com/doc/6209248/Co...abook-20072008.
125/70 CST ideal rim size is 3.5 +/- 0.5
135/70 CST ideal rim size is 4.0 +/- 0.5
No specific 145/70 CST tyre data but its looks like it has the same rim size limit as the 135/70.

IMO the important point to note in your review of space savers for the M3 is the unsuitability of the 125/70 tyre, not only because of the width issue but it also has a significantly lower load index/load capacity than the bigger section tyres.

I agree. The 145/70 tire is ideal, but I can't see paying almost 3X as much as for the 135. I hope one can be found for less.

Don't know the availability of this tyre or price in the USA but its about the same OD as the 135/70r18 tyre.
Vredestein 175/55-18 as fitted as spare to MB SL, Biturbo, MB E 55 AMG, MB CLS 55 AMG.

Hmmmm..but that's still 1 1/2" more trunk space lost compared to the 135/70.

Today I decided to get 2 spares for my M3 coupe, and ended up spending a little under what the OP spent. Discount Tire Direct, which is local for me, had 18" x 8" Drag DR-37 wheels in stock, that basically mimic my 360 Forged wheels. They are an 8 Mesh type design, with a matte black back, and machined face. These were $145/ea. I then bought the cheapest 245/40/18 tire I could get, which ended up being $86/ea!! These were some brand called Nankang NS-II's. I now have a pair of spare wheels and tires that will work for me or my wife's 335i. Here is a picture of the wheel...not bad. The cool part is, Discount Tire Direct will mount and balance for free when you buy a wheel/tire combo. Since they had them in stock, I ordered them this morning, and picked them up shortly after that.

The only downfall, is this is not very compact...at least not as much as the spare wheel combo the OP posted. These will have to sit in my garage when I am not using them. I needed them now, as 2 of my 360 Forged wheels are being re-done.
