Harrop Engineering Big Brake Kit installed

Hi Guys
Thought I'd share this with you. After researching a brake kit for a long time now I ended up deciding on the Harrop Engineering kit over all the others. Harrop have been around for 60 years and been involved in Motorsport for that time and now are breaking into the Euro market . I looked at Brembo and StopTech and could get good pricing on either of these through contacts in USA but there are warranty issues buying overseas and the cost of buying locally is very high. Aside from cost quality is a huge factor in modifying a car like the M3. To really check things thoroughly I went down the Harrop facility in Preston, Victoria. It is an extremely impressive facility and the GM, Heath Moore took time out to give a tour of the factory and see the brakes fitted to an M3.
The brakes are now on the car and are in the process of bedding in. So far they are outstanding and have a really solid feel. Looking forward to the next track day to test them out. The appearance I believe is second to none, and love the look of the new design calipers with 6 piston front and 4 piston rear. The front rotors are 380mm and I went for optional cross drilling rather than the standard slotted design. I’m 100% happy with the choice and have no hesitation recommending them so far.

They appear to be Brembos with the Harrop name on them.

Much the same could be said with brembo

harrop are an extremely well respected australian company!

How come your rims dont have the ///M logo/badge on them?

Yes they are and I remember them when Bob Jane and Alan Moffat were battling at Calder raceway, Harrop were big time then in the racing industry. As our car manufacturing base shrinks solid companies like Harrop have to look to other areas to stay viable.

Good observation with the rims, they are actually BBS rims, but I wanted to retain the OE look of the wheels but also gain the extra width. The rims were sandblasted and recoated to remove all logos to keep that OE look. This was another reason for going to the cross drilled rotors rather than the slotted design.

I'm no expert but i didnt know harrop supplied any oem equipment or were they utilised during the design phase?

Ahh yes now on a 2nd look i noticed they aren't oem rims, but you had me fooled!

Yes, they are a supplier to surprising end users in the car and trucking industry.

Ahh yes now on a 2nd look i noticed they aren't oem rims, but you had me fooled!

Trying to keep the OE look can be a challenge.. the goal with this car was to eliminate all chrome and just have black and blue but at the same time a more aggressive stance. The rims are wider than the stock rims but look similar in design but still a real quality rim.

Street Pads, H, they still squeal a bit but are very comfortable

Dave, I assumed you took the pads that came with the kit ? Should be Bendix Ultimates (Sports Pad for street and track use)

Track pad would be Ferodo FDSR3003

Thanks K, they do make a big difference to both appearance and performance and are fairly much the finishing touch for the car.

That colour on E92 is what Estoril Blue was for the E36. It will be timeless and will not age. It looks just stunning every time you post a pic and with those black wheels just completes the package. You've done a good job without going crazy

I am sure this car will be a keep, right

Yes, it was and it's now called MonteCarlo Blue. Apparently Estoril blue was banned because it was solvent based and could no longer be use Europe so they had to re think the colour. MonteCarlo Blue is very similar, perhaps a shade darker than Estoril blue. Had the car coming into the third year now and it just gets better all the time.

Retail on the kit is $6990 which includes all our local taxes. If we bring in Brembos by the time they land here with shipping and taxes plus the current exchange rate they come up to about $9500 and there is no warranty. To buy from local importers can be more expensive

It's bedding in progressively well. Need more kms on the brakes like what you did on yours.

Should be a good day at PI tomorrow. Need to get used to the new braking pressure and braking point.

Do Harrop sell rotors to suit (directly replace) the stock calipers?

Hi H, the Harrop front rotors are 15" (rear 14") and the calipers are 6 piston front (rear 4 piston) replacing the single piston. The stock rotors are much smaller diameter.

Are you just looking to replace the rotors? If so I don't think Harrops will work, they are much larger than OE
