Supercharged M3, 911 Turbo, GTR, or 650i x-drive?

So I am looking to spend around $70,000 or less and I have narrowed it down to a 10-12 Supercharged M3, 07-08 911 turbo, 09' GTR, or 12' 650i x-drive with a tune. I have never driven a 911 turbo or GTR but I previously owned a 2011 M3 and I have driven a 650i x-drive. I liked the M3 but wasn't impressed with the torque and would want a supercharger or stroker engine to give it more low end grunt. I have always loved the 911 turbos and GTRs and am working on test driving them soon to help make up my mind but I wanted to hear what everyone else thought. Thanks for the help!

Just personal preference, but here's my take:

I'd cross the 650i off the list from the start; too heavy and just overall not as special a car as the rest on the list.

For me, I cross the GTR off next. Amazing vehicle performance-wise, but I gotta have a manual in my fun car.

.....and then I'd cross off the M3. I wouldn't do it quickly because it seems like a strong contender. For the price--and then considering the cost of maintenance going into the future--it's probably everything you want and then some.

If it were me, though--and I already owned an E9X M3--I'd want the Porsche just to get a taste of something different.

If you had an m3 and didn't dig it , id go gtr

It will give you tue big power you want and handles like a boss also.

The 08 and older turbos have shitty suspension setups and are not well sorted and are tricky to drive. Ask me how I know

I did a recent write up on this as I have a 2013 e92 M3 DCT ZCP with an ESS 650 s/c and a StopTech BBK as well as a 2011 911 Turbo S PDK and I like the M3 a lot better as an overall package.

See, I feel like the 650i x-drive would be like an all-wheel drive M6 with a tune and a set of coilovers.

So you didn't like the suspension for your 911 turbo eh?

ok first off, 650? really ?

i wouldnt want a 2009 GTR. problems with tanny issues, also the engine is under powered compared to the updated years. maybe you can mod it though ?

M3 is going to sound the best. but its not as much eye candy as a Trubo or GTR though. although i do like the way a GTR sounds with right setup.

i dont know much about trubos, all i know is i want one.

You can get a decent 997TT for under 70? Where?
EDIT: Wow, there are quite a few in the low 70s or even 60s in decent condition, hadn't noticed they had dipped so far already. People here are still asking more than that kind of money for a used 2009 C2S, it's crazy.

Supercharge wont help low end grunt on the M3. You still need to rev it to extract the power.
It will add a LITTLE low end feel. The high end pulls like crazy though.

Turbo suspension/weight distribution is tricky. 09 GTR is meh, body looks out of date, and you dont get the changes that they made in the 12+ GTRs.
650i x-drive? Only if you need AWD and are willing to sacrifice a lot of performance.

My recommendation is to find a ZCP M3 in a stick so it's a little more fun to drive, and you're not overly concerned with speed. VT2 585, stoptech brakes, and the typical CF spoiler and front lip to make it look "fresh".
OR find a 2011 1M. Akra Exhaust/Ohlins and call it a day. The 1M will fit the bill nicely be loads of fun to drive and will barely depreciate. Finding one may be an issue though.

its just not well calibrated on the 997.1 cars until 2009+. I owned an 07 and have driven an 09 and the difference is very tangible.

I would say the m3 is much more well sorted than the 07-08 turbo suspension.

rear engine cars are very tricky to drive compared to the m3, the m3 is way more stable and easy to drive on the track and the street. the turbo is the faster car with a good enough driver, but I have tons of fun in the m3 and its a better fit for my skill level and for having fun to me

id rather SC my m3 than get another turbo. and id definitely rather wait for the new m3 before doing either.

id also take a gtr over all if I was looking for big power and a DD. if it was a weekend car, id probably take a 997 gt3 over all

Well I don't track my cars so would I still have a difficult time driving a 911 turbo? I would be looking to drive this car more than a weekend car but definitely not a daily driver as I have a company car.

no, you just need to actually drive one to see if its what you REALLY want

its more rough, loud, raw and intense than you think. it has rattles, the interior is old school and not that nice, and its gonna make some noise. the suspension also is a little rough and isn't as tight and buttoned down as say a GTR

to me, if I was gonna go auto id go GTR zero question about it. it will outperform the turbo, be more reliable with less issues, cheaper to mod, and more space.

if I was gonna go manual, the gt3 is a far more exciting and more fun car than a turbo in 997 form IMO

as a do it all car, the m3 is the best option. though I cant say I wouldn't be tempted just a little by a gtr haha. but the price point of a gtr vs m3 makes the m3 a much better proposition for me at this time.

Thanks for the insight and I will definitely check the 997 turbo out and drive one. I have always been a huge fan of both the 911 turbo and GTR. I have heard the GTRs tranny can have some issues though and I also am not an enormous fan of the interior. Another M3 could work but it would definitely need some mods. Supercharger or exhaust, test pipe, and ecu would be a must.

I would consider an M4 but I hate buying new cars because they lose so much value the first couple of years. My late father was a wholesaler in the car business and he would probably roll over in his grave if I bought a new M4 haha.

I would cross the 650 off...seems like the odd ball.

GTR would ride pretty harsh on the Pennsylvania roads (Go Pens!), but still a nice car and fun to drive. 911 would be awesome as well, though I would opt for a 997.2 as Mr. Kennypowers has stated.

I guess it just comes down to driving all of them to see what you like best.
