By the way, I love the build! Make sure to keep us updated

I spent a good 2 years with the GT2 (including 40+ laps around Nordschleife) and 2 years with the GT3, both on and off the track. I only have 40 miles in the M3 so I'm excited to explore more about the car. As much as I loved the Porches they weren't perfect. The GT3 997 is very low tech compared to the M. Its basically 3 pedals and a steering wheel, lol! The engine is super sharp but rough and asthmatic below 4,000 rpm. The suspension creeks like hell, especially at low speeds. The brakes squeal like a nails on a chalk board unless they are super hot and there is crazy brake dust that will melt impressions in your wheels. Steering feel is telepathic except the front end can get a little weird and floaty at times, especially over uneven surfaces. The front end hangs way over the wheels, which makes it a bitch to enter driveways and such. Rear end traction is amazing but losing the rear end happens without warning and will make you nervous.

The M sounds much better, (now that the Akra is on, it sounds ridiculously sexy) feels more high tech (I'm in love with DCT). I like the interior on this car much much more. The handling is great though it could lose a few pounds, but all the weight is in the right place. Once the mods are done, I'll never look back at the GT3 and say it was more of a car than the M.

Very interesting read. My father had a 997.1 Carrera S and I had an E90 M3, and I can agree on a few points, mainly the floaty front end and lacking interior. From a pure driving experience, I was hoping a GT3 would be an M3 turned to 11. Sad to hear that it's more compromised that it is worth. I also completely agree that the E90/E92 M3 could lose 200-300lbs and should have a louder exhaust.

I've always imagined turning toward a 911 eventually, and I wonder what you think of the 991. It seems to address a few issues that we both had but it could also take too much away of what made the 911 great to drive.

weird to read your comments on the GT3.
I too had my GT2 for 2.5 years and used it for the occasional DE event and as a weekend fun car. Just sold the car 3 weeks ago.
I came to the GT2 from an E46 M3 and the GT2 was dynamically superior. No compariosn almost. The Porsche was designed and engineered as a sports car and the M3 is a suped up 3 series.
The comments about the brakes and break dust and the squeaks and rattles are what you should expect from a stiff sports car...
If you're looking for comfort and quiet, a Carrera 2/4 would be better suited.
GT3 is low tech....??? I have to roll my eyes on that...
however, the M3 you're building sounds like a great project.
Enjoy in good health

Awesome, awesome build. Lately I've been thinking...maybe some black 359s for my winter set up (next year)...yours looks amazing, might have convinced me.
Congrats!

Having owned C2, Turbo, GT3's, GT2, Cup, CupS, I tend to agree with most of this. M3 is a special car and a bargain for the price.
