My beef is not with the exhaust sound. I want my engine/intake sounds to be louder all the time. I think I'm ready to purchase the new BMW engine sound enhancement ala m5 and x1. Lol. Curse the gods if it appears on the new M. (Sadly I have a feeling it will)

I like the MPE. I had it on my previous car. I heard it right next to an OEM mod and preferred the MPE. At >5k rpm the MPE opens up and roars like Godzilla -- a beautiful sound!

As for what's "worth it", that's a personal decision. Some people love exhausts that I really don't like, but I wouldn't say they wasted their money. That's something only they can decide on. Other people's business, you know?

If you want performance, my feeling is it's best to start with better brakes and/or brake pads, better tires, and lightening up the car. But if you're going to track it, you definitely need some kind of louder exhaust than pure OEM so you can hear your engine. One of my first track days I was hearing other people's engines over mine. I had to keep looking at my tach to see where I was in revs.

That's my two cents. But for you, no charge!
So true about needing to look at the tach to see where you are in the revs.

BMW perf exhaust sounds great. And this is coming from someone who hadeisenmann race with x-pipe. Kind of nice to hear the engine again...sounds really mean!

Just had mine done.

Just a quick review, not time to upload images/videos etc. I'm shattered.

So the mod, as planned.

- replace perforated pipes with solid pipes
- leave small pipe wrapped
- dead dog stays in
- chopped centre resonator / secondary cat out, replaced with solid straight pipe

all done at once. Result, mega loud above 3000rpm and not too raspy. Below its fairly bog standard, tiny bit louder, no drone in 6th gear crusing 60-70mph. Sounds very normal. but if you put your foot down or rev it with heal 'n toe. Its super loud. LOVE IT!

Before all I can hear is the engine / induction in Sport+ mode, but now I can hear the exhaust from the back and the engine noise together - very special sound! And almost dominates the front sound that you can hear before.

Also it pop's when I lifted off in third gear 4-5000rpm. Like a really loud pop. Mental!

Sounds a little bit like american muscle AMG engine though.

Revisiting an old thread I started to some things up:

Went with the Mperf exhaust and am very happy

The Mperf exhaust brings something special to the car. You look at design of tips alone, they look clean and unadulterated. Sound is amazing. Very silky "exotic" tone as others have stated. The more you drive the more you realize where it comes alive and sings. Never obnoxious, or droning, simply intoxicating. Not taking away from the OEM exhaust mod, but this exhaust IMO is well worth the cost.

If you are looking to refine the sound of your M to pure bliss, look no further.

I had abolutley ZERO drone with my MPE paired with the OEM x-pipe. It's when you start playing with the x-pipe that you have issues with the MPE.

Many are saying waste of $$$ to buy M performance, however I've heard great things about it. Great sound, no drone, BMW quality, etc...

Not to downplay Oem Exhaust mod, I just have a problem with cutting open and modding a factory M3 exhaust. Can't help but feel ghetto doing that...

Input much appreciated
If you want much sexier exhaust tips with laser engraved "M" logo and reduced weight along with kick ass sound: just do it.
I loved my MPE, but had to let her go because I got to messin with x-pipe configuration.
My MPE is now for sale.

Both sound great. The OEM mod sounds a bit lower. I’d rather spend the money saved on some CF mods.

the M performance is a bit lighter than the original exhaust. Saves a couple pounds. I have/had a Bomiz valvetronic. Took it off, put the stock back on. Noticed the weight on the rear end right away.

It’s 20lbs lighter, that’s why you notice it!
