This is a great test of the leading brands for clear protection film on the market now.

Wow, 3M is the best. Confusing since Ventureshield is a 3M product.

Ventureshield was its own company. 3M purchased Ventureshield and continues to market and sell the product in the same way as before.

3M is known for being hard to install as the film is less flexible... but as the test shows, it is good in other areas... And it is one of the ugliest films with tons of orange peel and lumpy texture speaking from personal experience. Trade-offs!

Good video to show people that there are differences between films that look similar, but the products tested in the video are fairly old.

Not only have Avery and Llumar released improved products, but there are a couple of other companies that have released films far more durable than anything tested in the video.

Here's an example of some of the technology that is being used in some of the newer films (not to mention better stain resistance):

For the products shown in the video above, it is the latest from those brands. Ventureshield Ultra, Avery Nano-Fusion and Llumar. The video was made about a half year ago.

You sure on that? The guy mentioned in the video products that he said came out in 2009.

I am pretty sure it is new. The post date is April 2012. In the youtube comments, the poster mentions the Xpel Ultimate which he didn't include in the video but would like to test as well. Paint protection film isn't refreshed every year.

This is what I'm getting next on my car.

http://www.xpel.com/ My local shop is the only one in WA carrying it and it looks great.

Anyone with this product?

Xpel Ultimate is great - not sure if they're still offering the older films but you should definitely get Ultimate if they still have both.

Thanks to the shagreen effect of the film, the car’s paint looks like the car is right from the factory and this really satisfies me. I do not not regret that I decided to cover the whole car in polyurethane and thanks to the specialist who advised me to use the F-Performance protective film.

I have the 3M Clear bra on my 2011 M3 for almost 10 years now. It still looks pretty good. How long will the clear bra last on the car? Will it damage the paint? What is the best way to clean this?

Thanks,
Dave

That's about how long I had 3M on my car. It was installed in 2009 and was getting pretty yellow. You should be happy and replace it now as it has served a full-life, it will require a heat gun and time. I replaced my 3M film 2 years ago and the new warranty is longer now and it's still super tough and durable.

Geez, this is an old video today now... films have changed a lot since then!

The best films today are all very similar. The exceptions being 3M which lags the leaders and is hard to recommend today. They haven't innovated where others have changed a lot. Ventureshield has all but disappeared after being acquired by 3M.

Suntek Ultra PPF and Xpel Ultimate Plus is the top today. I just had my clear bra re-done using Suntek Ultra.

Who knows what changes in PPF will happen in the next few years? Have to keep updated.

10 years for 3M clear bra from 2011 is extremely long. Most recommend only 5 years for clear bra from that period. It'll probably still protect the paint but the appearance will look pretty bad compared to new. Also, removal will be a pain as old clear bra will tear easily on removal and leave a ton of adhesive which is hard to remove.

If you want to keep the car and have clear bra, I'd recommend replacing it.

Any idea if either protection or longevity change with a matte clear bra? I do love how it transforms the car into a "frozen" look.

To me, Xpel and Suntek are the best PPF's in the market today.

Take a look at ClearGuard Alpha. Beats Xpel and Suntek.
