Okay, fine, everyone's definition of manual/automatic is a bit different.
My point was more that there are still clutches being engaged and disengaged in a manner similar to a 3-pedal car. It's simply not going to be as smooth as a torque converter.

Any idea if this is doable with that BMWhat iOS app + Bluetooth/wifi/OBD2 adapter?

DCT Slammed again! Big time!
Just got off I95 sitting at a stop light in D3 and WHAM-WHAM-WHAM!
It slammed so hard and shook the car that it scared the hell out of me and my wife enough that I thought someone rear ended me Driving away it shifted harder than normal going through the gears but calmed after a few miles. I know if I take it to the dealer I'll get the same ole song and dance about not being able to replicate it because it happens so rarely. How will I know if there it a transmission code? Will it display a CEL light? I've also noticed that rounding curves in 2nd gear auto mode that there is a slight lag before the gear engages. This is a 11.5 (20K miles) model. I've read where this was an issue in earlier models. Shouldn't this lag been reprogramed out by my production date?

Try to lower your DCT shift aggressiveness by using the button below your knob. The shift setting shouldn't be at its highest if you are normally driving. I keep mine at one below the highest and I get perfect/smooth shifts every time. If you want the "slam" factor, you would want to raise your shift setting all the way up.
Thats just my 2 cents lol |

It's a general problem with our DCT transmission , when driving in D3 in third gear and slowing down there is sometimes or often...depends, a delay when going into the second gear ,and how longer the delay...so the lag...the bigger the slamming feeling is of the lag when going into the lower shift gear ! And exactly this is your....WHAM ! This lag can create dangerous situations in traffic, because the car actualy slow down but without stop lights and when there is a car shorter behind you...than we need good luck and I know it,because I had also the 2nd gear lag,and when the DCT is not warmed up,it's even worse ! The fix....The solution.... I took my car 4 times at my BMW/Dealer ..and yes they know exactly what the second gear is... But.... They will say...Your car needs updates ! So after 4 times it was better,... but still there ! After the updates I was thinking by myself.....it's enough ! Next was this forum, and saw the BPM/Tune(Mike-Benvo) and all the positive reactions of it, and thought....why not,we will see... ! So for me personal it was Mike's BPM engine DEV tune and DCT sofware upgrade the ultimate solution for the second gear lag, shifts are much smoother and a lot faster ! Conclusion... The 2nd gear was history...never felt it again ! Our cars should have this software out of the factory...no doubt ! Hope this will help

We need also to know in what speed/shift OP was driving . When he was driving in D3 so in Drive and in third gear with speed/shift setting into 2 or 3 and gets the slam after the delay, i'm almost sure it's the second gear lag !

Car was in D mode in the 3rd setting in the selector on the center counsel. Dash indicator said D1 so it wasn't down shifting causing the slamming. It was very violent like someone had hit me... The only lag I get is when starting in the morning I have to push the pedal 1/2 way to get the car moving.

I've had it once in the last 5 years, a month or two ago...its like an instant downshift with no rev match or possibly the DCT park brake trying to engage for an instant.. Hasn't done it again so I put it down to some weird once in a lifetime combination of events. If it keeps happening then a trip to the dealer for a software update would be on the cards.

Your car was stopped for ten seconds when you heard the DCT slam into gear?

This is a very unusual problem and something you need to get addressed. Take that car to the dealer, explain what happened, and communicate the seriousness of the issue. |

One night mine slammed 3 or 4 times taking off from stoplights, I was in s5. It hasn't done it since but I usually drive in d4 or d5.

I had a very similar issue to this in my 2011. Very harsh 2-3-2 gear changes in D3 or D4. I took it to the dealer and the next day got a call that the BMW area rep had come and driven my car and I was getting a new transmission as a result. The car had 26k miles on it at the time. 3k miles later, the car appears to be operating fine.
Good luck to the OP. My transmission was replaced 2 months before the end of my warranty which I sure was happy to avoid the $22k charge that went to BMW USA as a result! |
