Correct...it really depends on the settings. I could have easily confused some of the 11 settings!

Please check when you get a chance, because 3000rpms is in the range of a 5-speed manual!

No prob...thanks. Please give your impressions as well in this thread. I didn't pay too much attention to detail yesterday as I was just happy to be driving it.

I personally don't see myself using auto mode much at all. I suppose we'll see how I like it. But I do like choosing my own gears. Even when I drive automatics with any of the shift yourself options, many times I use manual mode.

Please, if you guys think 3000 rpms is much that's nothing. My S2000 with 4.56 gears is around 5000 RPMs at 70mph.
But I do see what people are worried about (I think) the M3 is more like 80 mph at 3000 rpms. --------------- It sound like the DCT can be as fun and in different ways maybe more fun than the 6MT. I don't want to fight about who's better but just to point out the M3 is a fun car and having a tranny that can make it from Jeckel to Hyde at a push of a button (with the DCT) could make it VERY fun it sounds. I have a DCT coupe on order so I am glad to hear so far it's all good. |

WOW - very nice writeup. *sigh* I'm hoping I can trade in my baby in 3-4 years down the road to get in an M-DCT ///M :-D
p.s. I know everyone has said it, 3k rpm at 60 is too much - lol you sure you weren't going 160? :-P (don't flame - I know it would be much higher - 7 speed tranny so it's a joke) |

I think when driving the wife and kiddies they may prefer the softer D2/D3 etc. mode. |

there should be some calculations of speed in gear, meaning how many mph for each 1000 RPM for each gear.
I saw the 6MT was like 22.5 mph per 1000 rpm in 6th gear so it was like 67 mph would be 3000 rpm. The 7-MT probably will be more like 24 mph per 1000 rpms (in 7th gear) but I don't know the exact number yet. |

GREAT review on M-DKG Gasman!! I really appreciate your feedback on the different settings.
(--and hey while you're at it, how about 85 mph in 7th? That is a nice cruising speed ya know ) Beautiful car!

Great review. I really am curious to know how this transmission compares to SMGIII from the M5 and M6.

gasman thanks for the review!!
Now, both you and SMSgt B need to get those puppies broken in. We NEED info on how this thing performs downshifting to redline and near redline conditions. My favorite shifts are 6-3, 6-2, and 5-2. I sure hope M-DCT allows that kind of thing reliably. Have you guys found that "double clicking" works basically like SMG? |

Ditto. I'm getting the sense that I might actually change modes beyond going to auto mode when I only have one hand free -- bad driver, I know.
