BMW M3 vs Formula BMW

It would've been more interesting with staggered starts like in these vids (

Gee, what a shocking outcome. Looks like Jarama? Pretty twisty place. Almost 7 sec delta over only two miles, sounds about right. Driver #2 clearly better in the F BMW.

It must have had the "right brake lamp malfunction error."

Shocking outcome? Not meaning to be disrespectful, but you are clueless partner... I'm shocked it is not a bigger gap, the tires alone could produce such a big difference on the track times, let alone the weight difference...

Am I seeing this correct? The M3 has a greater straight line speed by a way and it is on cornering and breaking that the F1 car wins? Or was the F1 racer fooling around on the straight?

Mate, the formula weights around 450kg. Do you have any idea what it's like cornering/breaking in such a car?

Even accelerating, we have 140bhp for 450kg... Do the maths for the power to weight ratio. +- 3.2 kg per hp for the formula, and 3.75 for the M3 (I don't know the exact weight and didn't check it, just did the maths with 1500kg).

I was being sarcastic, I'm not clueless ace. I have quite a bit of single seater experience. Around such a short track, that seems to be about what I would have expected.

I've driven a formula car similar to this... with 170hp... 30hp more than formula BMW's have, and they both weigh in at about 1000lbs. The one I drove has performance similar to a Corvette ZR1, so it's really no surprise the M3 got dusted, especially in the turns.

The video is interesting, but the comparison it suggests is tenuous. Much as I like M3, the car is not in the same class as BMW-Sauber F1.09, and the F1.09 is not in the same class as other F1 cars. In the critical season of 2009, BMW-Sauber F1.09 was unsuccessful compared to Brawn-Mercedes, RBR-Renault, or McLaren-Mercedes - BMW-Sauber finished 6th overall. Many people who follow F1 racing thought that the 6th position was a fair achievement for a company who entered into formula racing in 2006. Obviously not all thought so - BMW AG decided to forgo formula racing after 2009, so the video is just an attempt to generate a bit of joy. Formula racing is an extreme sport, and speed is harder to make than joy.
