Changed the oil with Pennzoil Ultra 5w-40 Euro (Ferrari approved oil) and added 540 ml of Liqui Moly Cetatec. The engine is definitely revving faster and with less drag. I had two cases of Pennzoil Ultra 5w-40 sitting around and I've decided to use that for the winter. Good timing as we have temperatures hovering below zero here in CO. I've added Ceratec in hopes to reduce rod bearing and other engine wear. We shall see how effective this additive is. Send an oil sample of the used TWS to blackstone for analysis and will perform another UOA sometime in April/May timeframe. I'm very curious to see how the Penzoil/Ceratec compares to TWS.

Hi guys, no issues with the car and she's now supercharged with the original bearings. I haven't send in a blackstone report as I've discovered that the oil analysis will not be helpful with the latest bearings. Ceratec is in and now running 10W50 during the winter but I've only put maybe 500 miles on it since last November. No issues. Switching to 15W-47 custom made oil (yes, that's right, 15W-47) from BND automotive for the summer.

The lab and tribologist look into my M3 details such as engine info, compression ratio, oil pressure, clearances, supercharged or not, track usage, oil temps, etc. and come up with the recommended oil viscosity and additives that they mix specifically for my car.

Pretty neat. Why such a high cold weight though? Won't that exacerbate the clearance issues, or does the extra film strength outweigh the negatives?

It's a combination of things. First, the cold flow properties of the oil is way below what I need. Then there is a very stout additive package that coats the internals which helps with cold flow properties. Then there is increased oil pressure due to higher viscosity which helps move the oil faster.

No, higher pressure means the oil is not moving fast enough, therefor creating resistance measured in pressure.
