Relax! It's a simple fix and wasn't critical - That connector is tricky without having room to work and possibly a small screwdriver.

Good luck

"I do Interventional Radiology for living. I can coil a subcentimeter aneurysm in your brain through a 2 millimeter incision in your groin, but I could not figure out how to unplug that thing."

I always knew that car repair was far more involved than medicine.

I think in the future, you might want to carry some extra stuff

I have double sided tape, duct tape, painter's tape, some basic tools, jumper cables, and some other random stuff in a bag in my trunk :P

never ever cut a wire and see what happens. you should have just had the car towed. ever think it could also electricute you by cutting into it with a knife? hopefully the other end of that sensor wire is plugged into a harness or its going to be a very expensive mistake.

You don't need any of that stuff. That's what BMW assist is for. You're paying for it, so you might as well use it. :P

I keep one of these bags (I also keep a bit of cash in there, too), but this thread will have me adding a few things. Including some electrical tape and a few zip ties.

Well if you don't mind waiting 2 hours for BMW assist to show up, when you could get yourself back going in <10 minutes, then BMW assist will indeed be the proper solution every time.

BTW, I love people saying "I would have unplugged it" and "I would have spent a little more time...". What part of "I could not unplug it" you guys did not understand? I do Interventional Radiology for living. I can coil a subcentimeter aneurysm in your brain through a 2 millimeter incision in your groin, but I could not figure out how to unplug that thing. And it wasn't for the lack of time or trying. I happen to carry a small swiss army knife in my briefcase. That, along with my iPhone flash light, did the trick.

If they do not cover this under warranty, no big deal, I will just pay for it as it was "road hazard" or "plain stupidity cutting that wire". Either way, thank you all for helping with this, especially Technic.
Sounds like you should have started from the exhaust?

In the interventional radiology field there is a common saying, "When in doubt, cut it out"... can't really blame Sheepboy, he probably lives his life one snip at a time.

Must have been a Friday car ... or just before quitting time on the last day before the BMW plant vacation shut down, once they returned it was simply missed. Then after so many miles it simply could not hold on anymore ... the one screw that was in place holding it till that fateful day gave away ... and so there you have it

a few things fell off my first new Z4 e85 ... I think my issues were more poor quality ... then that's another story

strange that it would come off without any suspension work being done prior.

I would've cut it too. Simple splice a couple of wires back together.

I'm not going to say what you should or should not have done, or what I would have done in your position, because I haven't been posed with it yet.

However, I will say, this is a great time to do what this guy says. I keep this stuff in my trunk, too. It comes in handy at times.

You can go to Lowe's and get a common tool bag to put everything in that won't take up too much room. You can even velcro it to on of the cubby spots in the side of the trunk.

I meant, zip tie it in 5min if you carry a bag of emergency supplies.

But if he tells BWM that he cut it off, i think they will deny him warranty.
